The newcomer has just finished a gruelling local testing program, driving prototypes for thousands of kilometres across metropolitan chaos, regional highways and proper country roads to make sure its compact SUV can survive the real world.

Engineers pushed the cars over coarse-chip bitumen, winding mountain passes and long, brutal distances that chew up suspension and patience in equal measure. The program also put the vehicles through temperature extremes and endurance trials to check air conditioning, cooling and durability under conditions that are not on most manufacturers checklists.

More detailed specs and pricing will be released closer to the Australian debut, once the fine-tuning is done and the paperwork is signed.
