The new Škoda Elroq 60 Select has arrived to annoy the competition by offering a lot for not a lot. European designed, engineered and built, it starts at $47,990 RRP and $49,990 drive away, and comes with a seven year, unlimited kilometre warranty. That is a serious amount of reassurance for a mid size electric SUV that wants to be taken seriously.

Pricing And Ownership

Škoda has kept the maths simple. On road costs are just $2,000, which positions the Elroq 60 Select against rivals that often advertise lower showroom prices but then pile on fees. Finance is offered with Guaranteed Future Value through Škoda Financial Services, an interest rate of 7.99% per annum and repayments from around $141 per week based on a five year term, 15,000 kilometres per year and a 20 percent deposit. It is clear the aim is to make ownership straightforward and affordable.

Performance And Range

Under the bonnet this 60 Select develops 150 kW and 310 Nm, is rear wheel drive and will sprint 0 to 100 km/h in about eight seconds. It shares the long wheelbase used by the larger Enyaq, rides on 19 inch Proteus alloy wheels and promises WLTP range figures that chew through between 395 km on the combined cycle and as much as 504 km in the city cycle. For those wanting more shove, the Elroq 85 Select ups the power to 210 kW and 545 Nm, hits 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and stretches WLTP range to between 529 km combined and 661 km city cycle.

Charging And Battery

The battery is a 63 kWh gross unit, which is sensible rather than headline grabbing. Charging is equally sensible: 11 kW AC for overnight top ups and up to 165 kW DC for faster public charging sessions. That combination will suit most daily drivers and those who plan longer trips with sensible stops.

Practicality And Clever Details

Space is a Škoda speciality and the Elroq does not disappoint. The cabin features a folding rear armrest, generous seat adjustment with height and lumbar controls, heated front seats finished in a mix of ‘Loft’ fabric and leatherette and a heated leather trimmed steering wheel. The brand’s trademark clever items are present too: a door mounted umbrella, a two position parcel shelf, phone pockets on the back of the front seats and a removable rear jumbo box that doubles as sunglasses storage and a tablet holder. In short, the kind of everyday usefulness that makes life easier without shouting about it.

Infotainment And Comfort

The Elroq 60 Select arrives with a 13 inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging with active ventilation and four USB C ports capable of charging at up to 45 watts. DAB+ digital radio and an eight speaker audio system complete the cabin tech, so the soundtrack and navigation will both behave themselves.

Safety And Driver Assistance

Safety kit is comprehensive. Standard systems include Travel Assist, which bundles adaptive cruise control, adaptive lane assist and Emergency Assist, plus Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Exit Warning, Turn Assist, advanced driver fatigue detection, traffic jam assist, proactive occupant protection, front and rear parking sensors with manoeuvre assist, a rear view camera and seven airbags. It is the kind of roster you want if you care about surviving modern traffic.

Options And Upgrades

If you want to sharpen the look or add luxury, two main options are offered. Twenty inch Vega alloy wheels are $1,000 extra. A Signature Pack is $6,000 and bundles Matrix LED headlights with Dynamic Light Assist, dynamic rear indicators, a head up display with augmented reality, a CANTON 12 speaker sound system, a surround view 360 camera, a power adjustable driver seat with memory and massage, power lumbar for the front seats, a Virtual Pedal with electric tailgate and roll up sunshades for the rear side windows.

Model Lineup And Availability

The Elroq family now covers a practical spread of choices. The Elroq 60 Select is priced at $47,990 RRP and $49,990 drive away. The Elroq 85 Select is $54,990 RRP and $59,990 drive away. The range topping Elroq 130 Years Edition sits at $64,990 RRP and $69,990 drive away. The Elroq 60 Select will join the other models in dealerships from November, offering a roomy, well equipped and competitive package for buyers who want an electric medium SUV without drama.

A Škoda Australia spokesperson said the full Elroq range reflects a commitment to combining European design, engineering and build quality with strong value and ownership propositions. Under fifty thousand drive away for a spacious, well equipped and competent EV is a proposition that should be hard to ignore.
