Ford Australia Unveils Ranger PHEV: More Power, More Torque, Same Legendary Capability—Now with an Electrified Twist
Ford Ranger PHEV Stormtrak 11 1
Ford Australia has pulled the wraps off its much-anticipated Ranger PHEV, confirming full pricing and specs ahead of a mid-2025 local launch. The line-up will consist of four variants—XLT, Sport, Wildtrak, and the limited-edition Stormtrak—starting from $71,990 (MLP).
This plug-in hybrid powertrain is poised to offer Ranger fans the confidence of 207kW and 697Nm under their right foot, yet still sip just 2.7L/100km. If that doesn’t catch your eye, how about the fact that the Ranger PHEV can lug two European-sized pallets in its tray and handle up to 973kg of payload? It’s 180kg more than any other PHEV dual-cab currently on the Aussie market. In other words, you can load up everything—including the proverbial kitchen sink—and still have room to spare.
“First-Ever” Electrified Ranger

“The addition of a PHEV option marks the first time Australia’s best-selling nameplate has gone electric, backed by one of the largest EV-ready dealer networks nationwide,” explains Andrew Birkic, President and CEO of Ford Australia. “We can’t wait for our customers to experience the blend of performance, efficiency, and capability that sets Ranger PHEV apart.”
With more than 100 EV-ready dealers nationwide, Ford Australia ensures that anyone eyeing an electrified commercial vehicle is covered for after-sales support. That’s good news if you’re using the Ranger PHEV as a workhorse—or just want to keep it in tip-top shape for some weekend fun.
More Power, Less Fuel

At its heart, the Ranger PHEV pairs a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75kW electric motor and an 11.8kWh (usable) battery. You can expect maximum combined outputs of 207kW at 4600rpm and a whopping 697Nm at 2500rpm—on par with some pretty serious machinery. It’s also the first Ranger to feature this hybrid setup alongside the advanced full-time 4WD system introduced with the 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel.
Here’s the kicker: while you’re enjoying more power than any diesel Ranger, you’ll be stopping for fuel far less often. Ford’s claiming just 2.7L/100km (combined) thanks to the added electric grunt.
A Generator on Wheels

Ever thought of a ute as a portable power source? Ranger PHEV delivers Pro Power Onboard as standard across all Aussie variants. That means you get one 10-amp, 2.3kW socket in the cabin and two 15-amp, 3.45kW sockets in the tray. With a total system output of up to 6.9kW, you could power worksite gear, camping equipment, or even a caravan—no heavy generator required.
As Chief Program Engineer Phil Millar puts it, “The possibilities are almost endless.”
Drive Modes for Every Situation

Ranger PHEV lets you choose how and when you use that electrified juice. Four EV Drive Modes—Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later, and EV Charge—give you control over everything from zero-emissions motoring to reserving battery for later, or even recharging on the go if you need to keep the electrons flowing to Pro Power Onboard.
Towing and Hauling? Too Easy

Despite packing a battery beneath its rugged shell, the Ranger PHEV still proudly tows up to 3500kg (braked). Better yet, it hauls more than any other PHEV dual-cab ute in Australia—up to 973kg of payload in the XLT, thanks to a specially extended loadbox that fits two European pallets.
Sport, Wildtrak, and Stormtrak versions can handle 934kg, 885kg, and 808kg respectively. And for those who value towing confidence, clever features like an integrated trailer brake controller and Trailer Light Check come as standard, while Pro Trailer Back Up Assist is standard on Wildtrak and Stormtrak (and optional on Sport).
Who’s It For?

Ford is banking on Aussie tradies, adventurers, and anyone who wants a more fuel-efficient, eco-conscious vehicle without sacrificing the legendary Ranger capability. If you’re a business looking to dip your toes into electrification, this could be the nudge you need. And with the E-Transit Custom, Transit Custom PHEV, and E-Transit also joining Ford’s commercial EV line-up, there’s plenty more to come.
Pricing and Options
Four variants will be available from mid-2025:

Final Thoughts
Ford’s “best-selling nameplate” just got a serious shot of electrified adrenaline, and it hasn’t lost an ounce of its tough-as-nails Aussie ute DNA. If you can’t decide between performance, practicality, or saving on fuel, the Ranger PHEV is positioning itself as the complete package—with a cheeky grin to boot.
After all, who doesn’t want to out-haul the competition and still fill up less often?
