Meet the Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV, which has the nerve to call itself electric first and then quietly packs a petrol generator for the long haul. It looks sleek, feels modern and promises to keep you motoring without the usual EV range anxiety. Think of it as an electric car with a sensible umbrella for rainy days.

Trim Levels And Pricing

There are two trims: Style and Design. The range starts from $37,888 for the Style and $40,888 for the Design. The Style covers the essentials with 18-inch alloys, LED auto headlights, a panoramic glass roof, 360 degree cameras and connected services. The Design heightens the creature comforts with TechnoLeather seats, power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a 12-speaker surround system and ambient interior lighting. Premium paint is an option for those who like to look important.

Electric First, Range For The Long Way

Under the skin is an electric-first hybrid system where the electric motor always drives the wheels and a 1.5 litre petrol engine acts only as a generator. The battery is an 18.8 kWh LFP pack rated for up to 84 km of pure electric driving on the WLTP cycle, with a combined driving range quoted up to 900 km thanks to a 50 litre fuel tank. Output is 160 kW and 240 Nm, 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 170 km/h. Claimed combined fuel consumption is an eye-catching 0.9 L/100 km.

Charging, Modes And Onboard Tech

Charging includes 6.6 kW AC and DC fast charging up to 46 kW, putting 30 to 80 percent back in the battery in roughly 20 minutes. Four driving modes – EV+, EV, Fuel and Power+ – let you balance efficiency and performance on demand. Inside there is a 14.6 inch floating touchscreen, an immersive 3D cockpit, LEAP OS 4.0 Plus infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates and a comprehensive ADAS suite.

Space, Ride And Peace Of Mind

The B10 Hybrid keeps compact exterior dimensions for city life while offering a practical cabin. It measures 4,515 mm long, 1,885 mm wide and 1,665 mm high, with a 2,735 mm wheelbase. Rear-wheel drive, multi-link rear suspension and chassis tuning aim for a composed ride. The Design trim gets Hankook iON evo tyres for better all-season handling and reduced noise.

Warranty And Launch Perks

Warranty and care are bold on paper: an 8 year or 160,000 km high voltage battery warranty and a 6 year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty. Early buyers get a tidy launch package for the first 500 orders that includes three years of capped price servicing, a 7 kW wallbox charger and a vehicle-to-load cable. Practical, tempting and a little smug.
