In a whimsical twist on automotive innovation, Ford Motor Company has teamed up with the world’s most iconic gift-giver, Kris Kringle, to create the Ranger Raptor North Edition concept. Although Ford cheekily states the vehicle is destined for “sometime never” production, the one-off design is a holiday marvel.
A Collaborative Sleigh Redesign
Developed by Ford’s Australian design team with input from Ford’s global network, including researchers at the Experimental Laboratory Foundation (ELF), the North Edition concept is a reimagined “everyday sleigh.” As Kringle himself remarked, “The sleigh and reindeer are my brand, but I needed something versatile for the other 364 days of the year.”
Standout Features of the Everyday Sleigh

The Ranger Raptor North Edition blends fantasy with practicality, offering unique features tailored to Kringle’s needs:
- Roof Access: Forget conventional doors. The vehicle is sealed with a roof port for entry, perfect for Kringle’s chimney-centric lifestyle.
- Heated Hot Chocolate Holders: Redesigned cup holders maintain a steady 58°C, ensuring Kringle’s drink of choice stays warm.
- Integrated Tailgate Barbecue: A self-cleaning hot plate turns the tailgate into a mobile barbecue, ideal for downtime at Kringle’s Bonnie Doon retreat.
- Infinity Load Box: Capable of holding gifts for over 800 million children, this feature includes a safe return system for any accidental explorers.
- Gingerbread-Crumb SYNC® Infotainment: A special version of Ford’s SYNC® 4A system offers secure gift list management and advanced navigation.
- Enhanced F-O-R-D Grille: Constructed from Unobtanium, the grille ensures occupant safety at near-light speeds.
Flight and Speed Capabilities
Kringle’s sleigh demands unparalleled mobility. The North Edition features a reengineered levitation system inspired by Ford’s 1958 Levacar Mach 1, enabling the vehicle to reach altitudes of 60,000 feet. Combined with Mistletoe-class rocket engines powered by candy canes, the Ranger Raptor achieves speeds of 4,705,882 km/h, making it a true holiday marvel.
Design Leadership and Challenges

The design was led by Kirby Masterman, a Ford Australia designer, who worked under tight deadlines with support from Ford’s U.S. and North Pole teams. “The process was intense, but rewarding,” said Masterman. Dr Chad McBoffin, chief impossible projects officer at ELF, added, “We nailed the brief of creating an everyday sleigh.”
A Holiday Wish from Ford
As Max Wolff, Ford’s design director, stated, “From all of us at Ford, happy holidays! We’re honoured Kris trusted us with this project, and we’ll be cleaning mince pie crumbs out of Kirby’s computer for months.”
While the Ranger Raptor North Edition may remain a festive fantasy, its innovative features and playful spirit highlight Ford’s creativity and the magic of the holiday season.
