Toyota has introduced a refined selection of GAZOO Racing performance vehicles in Australia, featuring enhanced performance and styling for the GR Corolla, GR Yaris hatchbacks, and the GR86 coupe. These upgrades complement the recent improvements made to the flagship GR Supra coupe, building upon the exhilarating formula of integrating motorsport insights into high-performance vehicles.

Broader Appeal for Performance Aficionados

According to Sean Hanley, Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations at Toyota Australia, the revamped GAZOO Racing lineup aims to reach a larger audience, meeting their demands for style, driving dynamics, and performance excellence. Hanley emphasized the journey that began five years ago with the introduction of the GR Supra, leveraging Toyota’s vast motorsport experience to create thrilling road cars. The addition of the GR Yaris, GR86, and GR Corolla has further broadened the allure of the GAZOO Racing family, enticing enthusiasts with thrilling driving experiences.

New Features for the GR Corolla

Initially, the GR Corolla was offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, but it now comes with an innovative close-ratio eight-speed automatic transmission, fine-tuned for sporty driving. This model is available in a single, premium GTS variant with a starting price of $67,990 for the manual, while the new automatic version starts at $70,490. The eight-speed auto enhances gear ratio flexibility, allowing for better performance.

With four drive modes, including a newly developed Sport mode, this transmission delivers quick shifts and optimizes power and torque output. The updated GR Corolla boasts improvements to its 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, increasing peak torque from 370Nm to 400Nm while maintaining a robust power output of 221kW. All variants come with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, featuring a center Torsen limited-slip differential with selectable front/rear torque splits.

Functional Styling Enhancements

The GR Corolla also showcases new functional design features, such as a broader front grille optimized for cooling, which aids performance during high-demand conditions. Numerous weight-saving initiatives, including the addition of a carbon-fiber roof and a new front suspension member, contribute to an overall weight reduction of 13kg.

Inside, an upgraded multimedia system now supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, alongside Active Noise Control to diminish unwanted engine sounds.

Revamped GR Yaris Hot Hatch

The GR Yaris, known for its exhilarating performance and rally-inspired handling, now sees enhancements in power and torque, as well as an updated interior. The manual version of the upgraded GR Yaris is now available, with an eight-speed automatic scheduled for release in mid-2025.

Starting pricing for the GR Yaris range is set at $55,490 for the GT manual, with GTS options beginning at $60,490 for the manual version. The GTS variant replaces the former Rallye model and retains high-performance features such as lightweight forged 18-inch alloy wheels and advanced suspension systems.

Both the GT and GTS variants benefit from an upgraded 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, allowing total output to closely match the GR Corolla’s 221kW and 400Nm specifications. Additional performance upgrades include a new ‘Gravel’ drive mode for better traction on slippery surfaces.

Interior Upgrades and Safety Features

The GR Yaris features a redesigned cockpit emphasizing a motorsport-inspired layout, optimizing driver ergonomics. The multimedia system has been advanced, now featuring an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. All models come equipped with an updated Toyota Safety Sense suite, enhancing vehicle awareness and protection.

A new Liquid Mercury metallic paint option joins the existing color palette, offering further personalization for buyers.

Upgrades for the GR86 Coupe

The agile GR86 coupe has also seen improvements, now available starting at $43,240 for the entry-level GT and $45,390 for the GTS. A Limited Edition variant stands out with exclusive features and enhanced performance, available at $49,600.

Feedback from professional drivers has led to enhanced driving dynamics, including retuned shock absorbers and improved steering response. The vehicle’s six-speed automatic transmission has been refined for better downshifting, alongside a revised throttle map for enhanced engine responsiveness.
