Part hot hatch, part active lifestyle, all Cupra fuss and fury: meet the Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD. It is the most powerful Leon wagon to land here, and yes, it wants to be both sensible and outrageous at once.

What It Is

Built in Barcelona and slipped into the refreshed Leon line up, the Sportstourer completes the wagon roster and becomes the only Leon available with all-wheel drive. Think usable family wagon by day, proper performance machine by night.

Performance

Under the bonnet sits a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder making 245kW, teamed to a seven-speed DSG and Cupra’s AWD with rear torque splitting. The 0-100km/h sprint is a brash 4.8 seconds. There is even a drift mode for those who like their practicality with a side order of mischief.

Kit And Options

Standard kit reads like a checklist from a fancied up hatch: forged 19-inch Hailstorm alloys, cross drilled performance brakes, shark nose front end, triangular lighting signature and an illuminated rear logo. Inside are leather appointed seats, heated front seats with memory, Dynamic Chassis Control, power tailgate and a Sennheiser sound system. The Extreme Pack adds carbon fibre backed bucket seats trimmed in Enceladus Grey Seaqual and Dinamica, Matrix Ultra LEDs, dark gloss trim and Akebono six piston front brakes.

Price And Practicality

The Leon VZx Sportstourer is pitched at $67,490 RRP and $72,490 driveaway nationwide. Other models in the range span from an entry Leon S Hatch at $46,990 up to the VZe Sportstourer at about $69,990. Extras include the Extreme Pack for $7,600, a panoramic sunroof for $2,000 and paint options up to $2,650. It still seats five, swallows kit with cheer and comes with a five year unlimited kilometre warranty plus five years roadside assistance.

The Verdict

High performance wagons are rare, and the Leon VZx Sportstourer wears that rarity like a badge. It balances usable everyday chops with genuine pace and handling toys. If you refuse to choose between weekend thrills and weekday practicality, this is the wagon for you.
