Skoda Expands Electrified Lineup With Octavia Hybrid
Skoda Australia has priced its new hybrid duo and the numbers are pleasantly sensible rather than theatrical. The Octavia Select Hybrid sedan starts from a nationwide drive-away $43,990, the Octavia Wagon from $45,990, and the flagship Superb PHEV from $66,990 drive-away, which rather neatly undercuts the idea that European hybrids must be extravagantly expensive.
Efficient New Hybrid Powertrain
The Octavia Select Hybrid uses a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, producing around 110 kW and now mated to a 7-speed DSG for MY26. Fuel consumption sits in the low fives – 5.1L/100km for the sedan and 5.2L/100km for the wagon – and the mild-hybrid kit helps with launch assistance, brake energy recuperation and smooth engine-off coasting. In short, it behaves like the grown-up version of efficient motoring.
Octavia Comfort And Practicality
The Octavia packs surprising niceties for the money: dual-zone climate control, heated fronts, keyless entry with walk-away locking and an electric tailgate with Virtual Pedal. Cabin tech includes a 10-inch virtual instrument display and a 13-inch infotainment screen with sat nav, wireless phone mirroring and 15W wireless charging. Superb PHEV: Pricing And Power
The Superb PHEV brings plug-in ability and a proper electric range to the party without asking for a mortgage. The system output is 150 kW, combining a 110 kW petrol engine and an 85 kW electric motor for 350 Nm of torque. A 25.7 kWh battery promises up to 112 km of electric range under WLTP, AC charging at 11 kW fills it in roughly two and a half hours, and DC fast charging at 50 kW will take you from 10 to 80 percent in about 25 minutes.
Premium Comfort And Safety
The Superb wears its nicer bits on the outside and inside, with 19-inch alloys, tinted rear glass, illuminated badging and a digital cabin led by a 13-inch nav-equipped screen and a 10-inch virtual cockpit. Comfort features include tri-zone climate control and widespread fast USB-C charging. Safety kit is comprehensive, with 10 airbags and advanced driver assist systems such as predictive adaptive cruise control with stop and go, crossroad assist and rear traffic alert, so it will look after you if you forget to look after it.
Availability is straightforward: Superb PHEV cars have already landed and are arriving at dealers, with the Octavia Hybrid due soon. Skoda points to sharp national drive-away pricing and a seven-year warranty as the tidy finishing touch to a sensible, practical route into electrified European motoring.
