Australia’s Best Selling Vehicle Just Did It Again – The Mighty Ford Ranger

Right. Imagine for a moment that you are standing in the middle of Australia’s new car market. It is loud, crowded, slightly unhinged, and absolutely everyone is trying to sell you something with a touchscreen the size of a pizza box. Over 70 brands. More than 500 models. Absolute chaos.
And yet, once again, calmly, stubbornly, and without any fuss at all, the Ford Ranger has wandered in and nicked the crown. For the third year in a row.
In 2025 alone, the Ranger sold 56,555 units, making it officially Australia’s best selling vehicle. Again. That is not luck. That is not timing. That is domination with a tow bar.
Why the Ranger keeps winning while everyone else shouts
The reason the Ranger continues to be Australia’s best selling vehicle is wonderfully boring. It works. It starts. It tows. It fits people, gear, dogs, tools, caravans, dirt bikes, and half of Bunnings without having a nervous breakdown.
It was designed and engineered in Australia, which means it has been tested properly. On corrugated roads that rattle fillings loose. On work sites that eat suspension for breakfast. On endless highways where comfort actually matters because Australia is not small and never will be.

Ford did not build the Ranger by guessing what Australians might like. They asked. Then they listened. Then they built it stronger.
Enter Super Duty, because of course it exists
Just in case the standard Ranger was not enough, 2025 also delivered the all new Ranger Super Duty. This is the Ranger that turns up wearing steel capped boots and looking disappointed in lesser utes.

This is not a cosmetic upgrade. It is the next step in the Ranger’s evolution, built for harder work and longer ownership. Add that to a lineup that already includes Wildtrak, Raptor, Platinum, XL, XLT, XLS, Sport, and now Hybrid options, and you begin to see the problem for everyone else.
There is a Ranger for nearly every buyer, which is frankly unfair.

Ford’s year of doing everything right
The Ranger was not alone either. Ford Australia finished 2025 as the second highest selling car brand in the country, reclaiming the spot after a brief wobble in 2024.
The Ford Everest continued quietly steamrolling the large SUV segment, taking the number one spot for the second year running. Meanwhile, the Ford Mustang stayed exactly where it belongs, as Australia’s best selling sports car, because Australians will always buy a V8 if you let them.
This is not a brand propped up by one hero model. It is a lineup doing real work, every day.
Ford knows why this happened
Ambrose Henderson from Ford Australia did not try to oversell it.
“To have the Ford Ranger named Australia’s best-selling vehicle for the third consecutive year is a landmark moment for our brand, in a year when we proudly celebrated 100 years in Australia. This is a clear validation of the hard working and talented Australian-based design and engineering team who are focused on delivering for our customers every day.”
Which is corporate speak for, we built it properly and people noticed.
He also pointed out that this success was not accidental.
“Beyond Ranger, Ford also secured the #2 brand position overall. This is thanks to Everest leading the large SUV segment for the second year in a row, Mustang continuing to be the most popular sports car in the country, and Transit Custom achieving its best full year on record. Our sales achievements are the ultimate real-world demonstration of the proven capability of Ford’s vehicles, and thanks to our dedication to listening to customer needs directly and using that feedback to guide development.”
Translation. Australians are using these things. Hard.

The simple truth
You do not become Australia’s best selling vehicle three years running unless you deliver where it counts. Not on a spec sheet. Not in a showroom. But on the road, on the worksite, and on that ridiculous family road trip where nothing goes to plan.
The Ranger is tough without being crude. Comfortable without being soft. Modern without being annoying. It is a ute that understands its job description and sticks to it.
What happens next
Ford is not sitting still. Ranger Hybrid is on the way. Ranger Super Duty is already here. And heading into 2026, Ford is very clearly doubling down on capability rather than gimmicks.

As Henderson put it, “We are deeply grateful to our customers and dealers for their loyalty. As we look toward 2026, we remain focused on innovation and capability.”
Given everything we have seen so far, do not be surprised if the Ranger keeps doing exactly what it does best.
Winning.
Quietly. Repeatedly. And with a trailer attached.
