BMW Group Australia Cruises To Record 2025 Sales Triumph
bmw ix1 best selling bmw model in 2025
Australia’s appetite for shiny things with badges did not slow in 2025. BMW Group Australia closed the year with its strongest sales showing yet, with both BMW and MINI posting headline-grabbing results. BMW itself finished as the nation’s best-selling premium brand for the third year running, shifting 26,842 cars, up 1.9% on 2024. The success rests on a simple recipe: a broad product range and a “technology openness” approach that lets buyers pick petrol, plug-in hybrid or fully electric drivetrains for many models.
BMW X Models Dominate The Market
SUVs are the modern consumer’s comfort blanket, and BMW’s X line validated that in spectacular fashion. X models made up 70% of BMW’s sales in Australia, from the compact X1 to the flagship X7. The X1 led the charge with 5,306 units sold, a 17% rise, followed by the X3 at 4,909 units (+45%) and the X5 at 3,673 units (+16%). In short, Australians still want something with a bit of height and presence.
BMW M Remains A High-Performance Draw
The performance arm stayed strong, posting its best year ever with 5,837 BMW M cars delivered, a 3.7% increase. Enthusiasm for motorsport-derived engineering remains undimmed, and the racing calendar will reflect that soon when BMW’s M motorsport entries head back to Mount Panorama to defend a 1-2 finish in the Bathurst 12 Hour with two M4 GT3 EVOs.
Electrification Picks Up Serious Pace
Electrification is no longer a curiosity; it is mainstream for the brand. BMW offered 16 fully electric variants across seven models, the largest EV range of any manufacturer in Australia, and sold 5,187 battery electric vehicles, representing 19.3% of total BMW sales. The iX1 led EV sales with 1,888 units, followed by the iX2 with 1,194. Plug-in hybrids surged even more dramatically, with 1,824 PHEVs delivered – an eye-watering 2,872% increase over 2024 – driven largely by the new X3 30e xDrive (1,305 units) and the X5 xDrive50e (269 units). Buyers clearly want flexible electrified choices rather than being boxed into a single solution.
MINI Posts Its Best Year Ever
MINI had a blinder of a year, hitting 5,485 sales, up 38% year-on-year. The brand recorded its strongest quarter in Q3 and had already beaten the previous annual record by October. The refreshed range delivered across the board: the Cooper Hatch led with 2,263 sales (+45%), the Countryman followed with 2,235 (+19%), the fully electric Aceman sold 604 (+230%) and the Convertible added 383 (+104%). The sporty John Cooper Works variants, introduced across the line in April, moved 1,164 units (+146%) and now account for 21% of MINI’s sales. Electrified MINIs also gained momentum, with 1,715 electric models sold (+52%), making up 31% of the brand’s total.
Australia’s dealers and customers have clearly backed the strategy of variety, performance and electrification. The result is a tidy double record year for BMW and MINI, achieved through product depth, dealer relationships and an unmistakable ability to give buyers what they want.
