The carmakers have done it again. Kia has quietly handed its Seltos a proper second act and rolled it onto the world stage with an online premiere dubbed The Protagonist. The idea is simple and slightly theatrical: this is a small SUV that wants you to feel like the lead in your own life, whether you are ferrying children, fleeing the city or merely pretending to be adventurous while stuck in traffic.

Down under, the new Seltos is slated to arrive in Q4 2026. Local suspension tuning will begin in early 2026, so expect it to be tailored to the potholes and long straights that matter. Details on exact engines, trim splits and pricing will follow when the time is right.

The Protagonist Theme

The launch film presented three characters chasing achievements, freedom and closer moments with family, with the Seltos positioned as the helpful prop in each story. It is a neat bit of storytelling: the car is both useful and slightly aspirational. Kia’s leadership says the refreshed Seltos builds on the model’s reputation for value and reliability while adding features aimed at a wider range of lifestyles.

Exterior: Bold And Thoughtfully Rugged

Visually the new Seltos has been stretched and sharpened. It measures 4,430 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall, riding on a 2,690 mm wheelbase. That translates to a roomier cabin without turning the car into a bloated beast. The front grille has been widened and features a star map lighting signature and a welcome light sequence. You will also spot flush door handles, diagonal character lines, a floating roof effect, strong shoulder contours and vertical rear lamps that emphasize width. Two trim themes will steer buyers toward either a rugged X-Line look with dark metal finishes or a sportier GT-Line with body-coloured trim. Three launch colours were shown, ranging from restrained grey to a striking matte red.

Interior: Clever Packaging And Comfort

Inside, the Seltos has been reworked to feel more open and useful. A low, horizontal dashboard improves visibility while a column-type shift-by-wire setup clears the centre console for storage and freer movement. The cabin uses premium materials and a minimal layout to avoid looking like an electronics shop exploded inside the dash.

Practical touches include a wide panoramic sunroof that brightens the cabin, 64-colour mood lighting for theatrical effect, second-row seats that recline by a total of 24 degrees for comfort, and premium audio options designed to suit the acoustics of the cabin. A digital storefront allows owners to personalise software and entertainment content, and storage solutions include a foldable dual-level cargo board to make luggage arrangements less of a wrestling match.

Performance And Powertrains

The all-new Seltos is built on Kia’s updated K3 platform, which brings improved body rigidity, better noise insulation and balanced chassis tuning. The result should be a composed and confidence-inspiring drive whether you are zipping through suburbs or tackling a twisty back road.

Engine choices cover a broad spectrum. There is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol in standard tune delivering 180 PS and 265 Nm, offered with either a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox or a 6-speed manual. A higher-output version of the same 1.6 turbo lifts power to around 193 PS and 265 Nm and pairs with an 8-speed automatic. For buyers prioritising economy there is a 2.0-litre petrol rated at 149 PS and 179 Nm. Optional all-wheel drive is available, coupled with a multi-link rear suspension and selectable Terrain Mode settings for snow, mud and sand. Drive Mode Select lets the driver switch between Eco, Normal and Sport.

A hybrid variant will join the lineup in 2026, bringing higher efficiency and added everyday utility. That model will include vehicle-to-load capability for powering external devices and an advanced regenerative braking system that adapts to traffic conditions and navigation data to recover energy more effectively.

Technology And Safety

Safety has not been left to slip. The structure uses significant amounts of ultra-high-strength and hot-stamped steel to improve occupant protection. A comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems bolsters confidence on highways and in town. Features include motorway driving support, lane following, forward collision avoidance, safe exit warnings, a surround view monitor and parking collision avoidance systems. A head-up display projects key driving information onto the windscreen to keep the driver’s eyes on the road.

The instrument and infotainment setup offers a panoramic display formed from two 12.3-inch screens alongside a dedicated climate control panel. An AI assistant handles conversational interaction, over-the-air updates keep systems current, and a digital key enables smartphone-based access and sharing. Luggage capacity is class leading at 536 litres VDA, with flexible storage options and an accessory system that allows modular attachments for every-day organisation.

Global Rollout

Production begins in December 2025, with India first off the line, followed by launches across Korea, North America, Europe and China during 2026. In short, Kia has not simply refreshed the Seltos. It has rethought it for people who want a practical, cleverly packaged small SUV that looks confident and behaves with purpose. It will not pretend to be something it is not, but it does everything you are likely to ask of a modern compact SUV and does it with a bit of style.
