The MG7 has finally landed, and it is exactly the sort of car that announces itself without raising its voice. A mid-size four-door fastback with a proper 2.0 litre turbo engine, a cabin that looks like it enjoys fine leather and good sound, and a chassis that suggests someone spent time getting the bones right. It arrives as a single, well-assembled trim in emerald green and promises to do the sporting sedan thing without asking for a mortgage.

Power And Chassis

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine producing 170 kW and 380 Nm, sent to the road through a nine-speed automatic gearbox and an electronic limited slip differential. Grip comes courtesy of 245/40 Michelin tyres on 19 inch alloy wheels. The package aims for poise and predictability, meaning it should feel enjoyable without behaving like a show pony.

Design And Presence

The MG7 wears its fastback silhouette with confidence. Double-pane frameless glass doors, a deployable active rear spoiler and quad exhausts give it presence without resorting to shouting. The overall effect is sporty and refined, a car that looks like it wants to be driven briskly yet still be invited to a dinner party.

Interior And Comfort

Inside is where the MG7 tries to charm you into staying. Soft touch materials, an electronic panoramic sunroof and a six-way electric adjustable driver seat deliver the expected comforts. Dual zone automatic climate control keeps occupants content, while a 14-speaker Bose sound system will happily drown out any poor taste in radio. The car also lets you customise aspects of the drive such as exhaust sound, electronic suspension, and performance modes including an X-mode for when the road gets insistently tricky.

Technology And Safety

Tech is comprehensive. The MG7 comes standard with a 12.3 inch colour touchscreen, wireless phone charging, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360 degree camera, satellite navigation and a head up display. Safety is taken seriously with a five-star ANCAP target, seven airbags, the maker’s driver assist suite and a body structure built from high-strength materials.

Pricing And Ownership

Only one well-specified trim is offered from launch, priced at $44,990 MSRP plus on-road costs, with optional paint finishes and a Bordeaux red suede-like interior each available for $695. Ownership support includes a ten-year warranty when serviced through the brand’s dealer network, which spans over one hundred outlets nationally. In short, it aims to be affordable, well equipped and uncomplicated.
