Volkswagen has nudged, tuned and updated its popular SUVs for model year 2026. The changes are practical rather than revolutionary, but they tidy the range, add a touch more safety and broaden the choices for people who want something sensible with a hint of excitement.

Turning Assistant 2.0 Becomes Standard

Both the Tiguan and Tayron now carry Turning Assistant 2.0 as standard equipment. It is smarter than before, able to spot oncoming vehicles that are heading straight into the path you are about to turn across, and, crucially, it can also detect oncoming vehicles that are about to turn towards you. The result is enhanced oncoming-vehicle braking capability, which is the sort of invisible improvement you appreciate when it prevents a collision without you even noticing.

Wheel And Styling Changes

The Tiguan 195TSI R-Line gets new aero covers fitted as standard to its 20 inch Leeds alloy wheels, a cosmetic harmonisation that brings the look closer to the Golf R-Line and Touareg R-Line. At the same time the comfort-minded Tiguan 110TSI Life and 110TSI Elegance move to smaller wheels to improve ride quality. The Life drops from 19 inch wheels to 17 inch Venezia alloys, while the Elegance now runs on 18 inch Napoli alloys. Also new for MY26, Tiguan Elegance and R-Line grades receive illuminated Volkswagen emblems front and rear for the first time, because a bit of subtle theatre never hurt anyone.

T-Roc R Production Winds Down

The T-Roc R, the compact hotshot that earned a fan club, will finish production with the MY26 run. It is not an immediate disappearance though; it is expected that remaining stock of the 4MOTION equipped variant will be available into the early months of next year.

New Plug-In Hybrids Join The Lineup

Volkswagen introduces the Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid into the line-up as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. They promise over 100 kilometres of WLTP electric range on a single charge, expanding the brand’s mission to offer a wide spectrum of powertrains to suit different tastes and driving habits.

Powertrain Range And Pricing

By mid next year the Tiguan and Tayron range will be comprehensive. You will find the 110TSI turbocharged entry models in five and seven-seat formats, 2.0 litre turbocharged all-wheel-drive Elegance and R-Line grades including the Tiguan R-Line, and at the top a punchy 195 kilowatt, 400 newton metre 195TSI R-Line. Petrol turbo and PHEV options will sit alongside the fully electric ID.4 and ID.5 medium SUVs, all aimed at the most popular price bracket of roughly $45,000 to $75,000. In short, Volkswagen is offering choice by the bucketload, which is exactly what buyers in this segment want.
