DENZA has trotted out its debut pair of SUVs, and they are not shy. Ahead of a local launch later this year, the B5 and B8 arrive with a swagger that says: we can do luxury, off-road and clever electrification all at once. Think premium without the usual hang-ups, and with enough technical bravado to make the neighbours look twice.

Built On A Serious Hybrid Platform

Both models sit on BYD’s DM-O super-hybrid architecture – which, in plain English, means a dual-motor 4WD setup, clever drivetrain electronics and the now-famous Blade Battery. This is not a token electric nod; it is a system designed to switch between worlds – long-range touring, short silent runs, and even proper off-road work when required.

B5: Compact, Potent And Practical

The B5 arrives in two flavours: the standard B5 and the B5 Leopard. Both use a plug-in hybrid twin-motor layout producing 425 kW and 760 Nm of torque. They carry a 31.8 kWh Blade Battery that gives up to 90 km of pure electric range on the WLTP cycle and accept DC fast charging up to 100 kW. So you get genuine EV driving for daily errands and petrol endurance for anything more ambitious.

The Leopard trims the B5 for dirt and towing duties, adding DiSus-P hydraulic adaptive suspension, electrically-actuated front and rear mechanical diff locks and a 3,000 kg tow rating. Inside you get five seats, up to 1,064 litres of boot space, a 15.6 inch rotating touchscreen, a 12.3 inch digital driver display, Nappa leather and a decent helping of safety tech including a 360 degree camera and 11 airbags. It is practical, plush and ready for a weekend away.

B8: Flagship Comfort Meets Serious Capability

Move up to the B8 and the tone shifts to grand tourer with off-road credentials. Offered in six-seat and seven-seat layouts, both B8 variants use the plug-in hybrid dual-motor configuration tuned to 450 kW and the same 760 Nm. They pack the same 31.8 kWh Blade Battery, but charging is bumped to 120 kW and there is a 91 litre fuel tank for extended range and real-world touring across remote country.

DiSus-P hydraulic suspension is standard, electric diff locks are fitted (front and rear on the 6-seat), and towing capacity rises to 3,500 kg. This is an SUV that expects to be loaded, towed and pushed.

Interior, Comfort And Tech

The B8 goes full comfort theatre. Three rows, premium Nappa leather, heated, ventilated and massaging seats and a temperature-controlled cooler/hotbox that runs from -6 C to 50 C. Choose the six-seat and the second row becomes two individual captain’s chairs for that extra lounge-like feeling. Tech-wise both models share a rotating 15.6 inch centre screen and a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster. The B8 adds an 18-speaker Devialet audio system and broader safety kit with 14 airbags and a 360 degree camera arrangement.

What This Means For Buyers

DENZA is positioning these two SUVs as serious alternatives to the established players. They combine high-power hybrid systems, respectable electric-only range, genuine towing and off-road hardware, and interiors that lean into comfort and technology rather than austerity. In short, they want to be equally at home on a family holiday, a camp track or cruising the city in style.

Expressions of interest are open now, with orders expected to begin in early December.
