Isuzu UTE Australia will add a new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel to its D-MAX ute and MU-X seven-seat SUV ranges, with the 25.5MY models arriving in dealerships from September and officially on sale from 1 October 2025. The newcomer joins the existing 3.0-litre engine in the line-up and brings a fresh balance of economy, refinement and everyday grunt.
New 2.2L Engine And Eight-Speed Auto
The new four-cylinder RZ4F 2.2L EURO5 turbo-diesel produces 120kW and 400Nm and is paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Manual gearboxes will no longer be offered for these models. The drivetrain is fitted across selected D-MAX and MU-X grades to give buyers a simpler, more refined choice without compromising capability.
Performance And Fuel Economy
The RZ4F puts 255Nm on tap from just 1,000rpm, which is a notable improvement over the outgoing 1.9L unit. Peak torque of 400Nm is available from 1,600 to 2,400rpm, and peak power is reached at 3,600rpm. Isuzu quotes a combined cycle fuel consumption from 6.3L/100km for the new 2.2L, delivering a sensible mix of everyday efficiency and usable performance at highway speeds and off the line.
Towing, Safety And Durability
With the introduction of the 2.2L engine, Isuzu achieves a uniform 3.5-tonne braked towing rating across the entire D-MAX and MU-X range. All 2.2L variants maintain a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating. The models retain Isuzu’s reputation for toughness by delivering linear torque and broad drivability, plus an economy-minded eight-speed gearbox for smoother shifts and reduced noise.
Colour Palette And Launch Pricing
A new Wolfram Grey Metallic joins the palette for selected D-MAX X-RIDER and above specifications. Launch drive-away pricing includes selected offers such as: 2.2L D-MAX 4×2 SX Auto Single Cab Chassis with Eco Alloy Tray from $36,990 drive away; 2.2L D-MAX 4×4 X-RIDER Auto Crew from $56,990 drive away; 2.2L MU-X 4×2 LS-M Auto from $48,990 drive away; and 2.2L MU-X 4×4 LS-T Auto from $69,990 drive away. Full RRP listings for the D-MAX and MU-X line-ups remain extensive, reflecting a broad choice of cab layouts, drivetrains and trim levels.
Key Equipment By Grade
The MU-X LS-M comes well specified as standard with Isuzu’s Intelligent Driver Assistance System, eight airbags, the 120kW/400Nm 2.2L engine, eight-speed automatic, idle stop-start, and 4×4 Terrain Command where applicable. It also offers practical dimensions such as 311 litres of boot space with seats up and up to 2,138 litres with the second and third rows folded, 800mm wading depth and a suite of connectivity ports and an 8.0-inch infotainment screen.
The MU-X LS-U adds larger 18-inch wheels, tyre pressure monitoring, powered and heated mirrors, premium trim accents, a 9.0-inch infotainment system with navigation and eight-speaker audio, and convenience features such as Walk Away Door Lock and dual-zone climate control. The LS-T steps up to 20-inch wheels, leather-accented seven-seat trim, variably heated front seats, an 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, ambient lighting and a 360-degree surround view monitor.
On the D-MAX side, SX specification includes the 2.2L engine, eight-speed automatic, 235mm ground clearance, 800mm wading depth, payload capacity up to 1,350kg on single cab models, and standard safety technology. X-RIDER adds cosmetic and practical upgrades including Bi-LED headlights, LED fog lights, gloss black trim, blacked-out styling cues, gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels and unique interior touches.
Accessories, Finance And Aftercare
Isuzu has updated its genuine accessories catalogue to match the 25.5MY models, with items such as an Electronic Brake Controller, tow bars and canopies available as dealer-fit options. Finance and insurance products are offered through the national dealer network, with a focus on digital, tailored solutions to simplify ownership. Isuzu’s Service Plus program backs the range with a national dealer network, fixed-price servicing at $469 per year on 15,000km intervals for five years, a six-year warranty and up to seven years of roadside assistance.
Availability And Test Drives
Dealers will start receiving stock in September ahead of the 1 October on-sale date, and some locations may have vehicles available from mid-September. Customers are encouraged to book a test drive to experience the new 2.2L engine and the updated models first hand.
