MG MGS6 EV: A Mid Size Family SUV With Swagger, Practicality
mgs6 ev 004
MG has shrugged off the bland and delivered the MGS6 EV, a mid-size family SUV that wants to look smart on the school run and still pull the caravan on the weekend. It launches in two trims: Essence RWD from $49,990 driveaway and Essence AWD from $56,990 driveaway, so you can choose modest pace or proper shove without selling a kidney.
Smart Power
Underneath is MG’s electric platform tuned for everyday use. The AWD twin-motor knocks out 266kW and will shove you 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds. The RWD version offers a more composed 180kW and hits 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds. Claimed WLTP ranges are 530km for the RWD and 485km for the AWD, which is perfectly decent for a family that likes the occasional weekend escape.
Rapid charging will take the battery from 10-80% in about 38 minutes on a 150kW DC charger at 144kW peak. There is a heat pump, One Pedal Mode and adjustable regenerative braking for efficiency and better urban manners. Tow ratings are 750kg unbraked and 1500kg braked, so yes, it can haul a small trailer or a dinghy.
Design That Moves With Purpose
The MGS6 EV is all clean lines and purposeful surfaces rather than shouty chrome. It measures 4708mm long, 1912mm wide and 1664mm high, rides on 20-inch alloys with low-wind-resistance caps and uses MacPherson front and Multi Link rear suspension to keep the ride civilized. It looks the part whether you are in the city or pointed at the coast.

Considered Comfort And Practicality
Inside is a calm, well ordered cabin with vegan-leather seats that heat and ventilate, suede trim, heated outer rear seats, ambient lighting and an 11-speaker audio system with subwoofer. Practicality is sensible rather than showy: a 581-litre boot, an 86-litre frunk on the RWD (67 litres on the AWD) and 1,690 litres with the rear seats folded makes this genuinely useful for family life and luggage.

Intelligence And Safety
MG has packed the dash with tech. There is a dual-screen layout combining a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display, with optional Head Up Display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless charging and voice control. The suite of driver aids includes Active Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, a 360 degree camera and Blind Spot Detection, plus a customisable safety settings function for peace of mind.

Ownership That Keeps It Simple
Every MGS6 EV comes with a seven year unlimited kilometre warranty and the option to extend cover through a service activated extended warranty up to 10 years or 250,000km. The model range is available in dealerships now, with a curated set of exterior colours and two interior trim palettes to choose from.
