Denza Z9GT Arrives In Australia With Supercar Pace

Think of a grand tourer and you imagine comfort, long legs and the faint whiff of leather. Now stick an electric heart and a mathematician from the future into that picture and you get the DENZA Z9GT. Australia has been told it is coming, the overseas car has been shown, and yes, local specifications may differ.
This is not a timid electric saloon. It arrives carrying BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 and something called FLASH charging, which boasts a ridiculous peak figure of 1,500kW. In plain English that means you can go from near empty to almost full in the time it takes to drink a coffee. If true, it changes the rules of long distance travel for EVs.

Range figures quoted from overseas tests tip the hat at about 1,036 kilometres, which is the sort of number that transforms range anxiety into a memory. The Z9GT sits on a new e3 platform and has three electric motors, a setup that promises both staggering straight line speed and nimble low speed manoeuvring. Output is estimated at around 850kW, which translates to more than 1,100 horsepower and a 0 to 100km/h time of roughly 2.7 seconds. That is supercar territory with the smoothness of an electric drivetrain.

Fast is not the same as livable, and DENZA seems to know the difference. The grand tourer features an advanced DiSus-A air suspension that aims to keep the ride composed whether you are eating highways or dodging potholes. There is also on-board software to help manage the unfortunate event of a tyre blowout at speed by modulating power, steering and braking in milliseconds. It sounds reassuringly clever.

Interior And Luxury
Inside is where the Z9GT tries to show it has manners as well as muscle. Think premium Nappa leather seats with massage and extended leg rests, a 50 inch augmented reality head up display, high-end Devialet audio, ambient lighting with 128 colour choices and even a built-in refrigerator. The brief appears to have been to combine centuries of traditional craft with tomorrow’s toys.
Availability And The Small Print
Denza has confirmed deliveries will begin in the third quarter with the first FLASH chargers at selected dealers due in the fourth quarter. Local specifications, pricing and final performance figures will be announced closer to the on-sale date and are subject to change. For now, the Z9GT is a bold claim that will be fascinating to drive if the numbers hold up.
