Mazda CX-60 Gains 2.5L Skyactiv Petrol Option For Value

If you have ever wanted a reasonably sized SUV that behaves like it has its head screwed on and does not demand your firstborn to run, meet the latest CX-60. Mazda has quietly plonked its G25 2.5 litre Skyactiv petrol engine into the lineup, which means more people can buy one without selling a kidney.
G25 Joins The CX-60 Range
The newcomer is the familiar G25 naturally aspirated 2.5 litre petrol. It sends 138 kilowatts and 250 newton metres to the rear wheels through a tidied-up eight speed automatic. The result is a CX-60 that feels composed and predictable, with combined fuel consumption advertised down to about 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres. In short, it is neither a fire-breathing rocket nor a slobbering slug. It is, quite sensibly, somewhere in the middle.
Trim Levels And What You Get
Mazda has grafted the G25 onto the same trim ladder as the six cylinder models. The Pure entry model is surprisingly well equipped: a 10.25 inch colour widescreen display with Mazda Connect, a 360 degree view monitor, a seven inch multi information display, an eight speaker DAB plus audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus wired, dual zone climate control with rear vents, LED headlamps with high beam control, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and black cloth seats with an eight way manual driver adjustment. All of this comes with nice touches such as a leather steering wheel and shift knob, satellite navigation and a rear console with USB C.
The Evolve steps things up by adding a larger 12.3 inch information cluster, an enhanced see through 360 degree view monitor, black Maztex trim, Cruising and Traffic Support, driver monitoring, front cross traffic alert, a remote operated power tailgate and a wireless phone charger. The Touring takes it further with black leather trim, exterior mirror memory, heated front seats, powered seats with driver memory and an LED rear console lamp. In short, you can pick your level of polish and comfort without losing the basics.
Pricing And Launch Offer
Mazda has positioned the G25 as the value choice in the CX-60 family. Manufacturer list prices start at $44,240 for the Pure, rise to $49,240 for the Evolve and $52,240 for the Touring. To kick things off, Mazda is offering a limited introductory driveaway deal for the Pure that presents exceptional value. The model grades otherwise remain consistent with the six cylinder CX-60 variants, so you get the same technology and safety kit baked in.
Colours, Demand And The Rationale
You will not be short of paint options. The CX-60 colour palette runs to eight finishes, including three of Mazda’s Takuminuri premium paints: Rhodium White Metallic, Soul Red Crystal Metallic and Machine Grey Metallic. The rest of the lineup includes Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica, Platinum Quartz Metallic, Sonic Silver Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic. Mazda says the G25 was added because customers asked for it and expects the value focused engine to make up roughly one third of annual CX-60 sales. The argument is simple. Give people a desirable car with a proven engine and a sensible price, and they will take it.
Availability
The CX-60 G25 is on sale now through Mazda dealerships across the country, with first customer deliveries scheduled to begin next month. It is the sensible option in an increasingly crowded market, with good equipment and a price that does not make your wallet cry.
