MG MGS5 EV Upgrades: More Power, More Range, Same Price
MG has quietly given the MGS5 EV a tune-up most buyers actually asked for: a stronger motor, longer range and no change in the drive-away price for the flagship model.
Performance And Range
The Essence 62 now delivers 150kW and 350Nm, up from 125kW and 250Nm. That trims 0-100km/h to 7.0 seconds from 8.6 seconds and pushes WLTP range up to as much as 450km. The upgraded motor uses newer technology to squeeze more power density and better efficiency out of the same package.
Line-Up Simplified
MG has pruned the range to match how Australians actually buy cars. The Excite 49 and Excite 62 are no longer open to new orders. The Essence 49 remains unchanged. Since launch more than 80 percent of customer orders were for Essence variants, and the Essence 62 alone accounts for 58 percent of sales.
Practical Details
Built on the same platform as the MG4, the MGS5 EV keeps rear-wheel-drive dynamics and a five-star ANCAP safety rating. The modular battery sits just 110mm high to maximise cabin space. Wireless Apple CarPlay and a hands-free power tailgate are now standard across the remaining variants.
In plain terms: more usable performance and range, the same price for the flagship and a tidier line-up. For buyers who want an EV that behaves like a grown-up daily driver, this is a sensible, no-nonsense update.
