Alfa Romeo Tonale Series 3 Lands With Sport Speciale
Alfa Romeo’s Tonale Series 3 has arrived in Australia, and it is not disguising its ambitions. The range is now streamlined to the Veloce trim, packs more kit as standard, and introduces a limited-run Sport Speciale edition that wants to be noticed on sight and on road.
Looks And Presence
The facelift tightens the Tonale’s face with a three-dimensional concave Scudetto grille and intakes that borrow cues from the brand’s harder-core models. The Trilobe treatment broadens the stance, and new 19-inch Stile wheels and a two-tone black roof sharpen the profile. New paint options include Brera Red, Monza Green, and the Sport Speciale exclusive Giallo Ocra.
Cabin And Finishes
Inside, expect a cleaner centre console with a rotary gear selector, revised material finishes and optional red leather-accented upholstery if you like being dramatic. The cockpit keeps the driver at the centre with aluminium paddle shifters and a steering-wheel start button, plus a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.
Powertrains And Dynamics
The Tonale sticks with two electrified powertrains. The Ibrida hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre turbo four with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox for 128kW to the front wheels. The Ibrida Plug-In Q4 adds electrified all-wheel drive, a 6-speed automatic and 198kW combined, with up to 59 kilometres of electric range on the WLTP cycle. Alfa says power delivery is smoothed by upgraded hybrid control processors, and a wider track, Brembo brakes and tuned suspension sharpen handling.
Equipment And Value
For Series 3 the range is simpler and better equipped. Lusso Pack items are now standard on every Tonale Veloce, including heated and ventilated front seats, an 8-way electric driver’s seat with memory, heated steering wheel and a PTC heater. Driver aids are comprehensive, with Level 2 assistance, a 360 camera, parking sensors and autonomous emergency braking among the list.
Sport Speciale
The Sport Speciale series is a limited global run that dresses Tonale and the Junior in gloss black kits, unique alloy wheels and Alcantara touches inside. On the Tonale this means Harman Kardon audio, unique ambient lighting, a sunroof as standard and the exclusive Giallo Ocra paint option. It is intended to be a sharper, more expressive take on the compact SUV.
Prices start at $64,990 for the Veloce Ibrida and $78,990 for the Veloce Ibrida Plug-In Q4. The Sport Speciale editions begin at $51,990 for the Junior and $69,990 for the Tonale. Optional extras include premium paint and a sunroof.
