BMW iX3 40 Brings 635km Range And 300kW Charging Here
bmw ix3 3
Meet the new entry point to BMW’s Neue Klasse electric family: the iX3 40. It arrives in Australia in Q4 2026 priced at $89,900, neatly sitting below the luxury car tax threshold. Think of it as the sensible sibling that can still embarrass a few hot hatches.
Performance And Range
Rear wheel drive with a single electric motor producing 235 kW and 500 Nm. BMW quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. The usable battery capacity is 82.6 kWh, made from cylindrical lithium ion cells in a cell to pack layout that the company says gives about 20 percent higher energy density than the old prismatic approach. WLTP range is up to 635 km.
Charging is taken seriously. The iX3 40 uses 800 volt architecture and accepts up to 300 kW DC, meaning a 10 to 80 percent charge in around 21 minutes and, under optimal conditions, up to 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. AC charging is 11 kW as standard with an optional 22 kW unit that will recharge from empty to full in roughly 4 hours 15 minutes.

Tech And Interior
The cabin sticks to the Neue Klasse brief: clean, reduced and a little futuristic. A panoramic display stretches from A pillar to A pillar while BMW Panoramic iDrive and Operating System X handle infotainment. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant remains the voice interface and now offers Amazon Alexa integration. Under the skin sit four high performance central computers, claimed to deliver more than 20 times the processing power of previous systems. The Heart of Joy control computer and BMW Dynamic Performance Control software are said to respond up to ten times faster than before, which translates to crisper handling and quicker electronic reflexes.
Trim, Options And Practicalities
Standard kit is generous and mirrors the higher spec iX3 50 xDrive, so buyers get a comprehensive safety and convenience package out of the box. Wheels start at 20 inches with 21 and 22 inch options. Paint and personalisation expand too, including a new Frozen Ocean Wave Blue and a BMW Individual program with premium colour choices typically priced between $6,000 and $7,600. The iX3 40 arrives late 2026 and gives buyers a practical long range EV that charges fast and does not demand a second mortgage.
