The Nissan Leaf has been crowned Supreme Winner 2026 by Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year, a jury of 86 women motoring journalists from 55 countries. It won for being accessible, easy to use and for dragging electric mobility out of the realm of gadgetry and into everyday life.

The trophy was presented in Japan to the manufacturer’s leadership. Judges praised the Leaf as a car that does the sensible things very well: familiar controls, thoughtful packaging and an EV experience that does not demand a degree in software engineering to enjoy.

“We are deeply honoured as a company,” said Nissan’s CEO, summing up a sentiment that was as much about teamwork as technology. “It is a great recognition of all the work done by thousands of people behind the creation of this product.”

“The Nissan Leaf represents innovation that is practical, purposeful and accessible,” added the WWCOTY president, underlining the jury’s preference for usability over flash.

The award sits neatly within the manufacturer’s stated Vision of Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life, which pins artificial intelligence to human needs rather than the other way around. The message was plain: make advanced systems intuitive, make the transition to electric mobility seamless, and do it without compromising the basics of what a car should be.
