Hyundai has taken the scissors to the IONIQ 5 roster and come up with something sensible. The 2026 IONIQ 5 family is now trimmed down, easier to understand and, importantly, fitted with Hyundai Digital Key 2.0 across the range. That means you can treat your phone like a key, which is marvellous for people who always misplace the real thing.

Model Line-Up And Naming

Gone are the days of 14 variants. For 2026 the IONIQ 5 is offered in three flavours: the entry-level IONIQ 5, the mid-spec Elite and the N Line Premium. The proper high-performance IONIQ 5 N now comes as a single, fully specified grade that includes a Vision Roof as standard. Hyundai has also retired the 125kW RWD 63kWh variant and the Digital Side Mirror option. The mid and top trims have been renamed to align with the wider Hyundai range, so Dynamiq is now Elite and Epiq has become N Line Premium. It is neat, tidy and less bewildering for buyers.

Powertrain And Range

Every 2026 IONIQ 5 wears an 84kWh battery as standard. The RWD single motor version produces 168kW and, depending on wheel size, will manage a WLTP range of around 570km on 19-inch wheels or about 530km on 20-inch wheels. The dual-motor AWD variants ups the output and offers around 495km WLTP in the N Line wheel configuration. The IONIQ 5 N is the barnstorming flagship with a combined output around 448kW from its dual motors and a WLTP range of 448km. In short, useful range is standard and performance is available if you want it.

Hyundai Digital Key 2.0

Digital Key 2.0 turns your phone into the key fob. If your device has UWB technology you can simply walk up to the car and it will respond without you touching anything. If your phone lacks UWB, NFC will do the job by tapping the handle to unlock and the NFC reader to start the car. Activation requires a Hyundai Bluelink account and the key sits in your phone wallet once registered. It can be shared with up to 15 compatible devices, does not rely on a mobile signal to operate and may still work even when a phone battery is flat on some devices. NFC cards are available as an accessory but not included as standard.

Features And Software Updates

The 2026 models carry over a number of refinements from last year’s update. LED headlights now include an Intelligent Front Lighting System. All windows gain auto up and down, the steering wheel has haptic feedback and the N Drift Optimiser Pro system is more configurable with greater functionality. The N Active Sound system has received a logic update too, all delivered via over-the-air updates where applicable. Small things, but they matter when you live with a car every day.

Colours And Interior Choices

Exterior options are broad. The standard IONIQ 5 is offered in up to ten colours depending on grade, with Celadon Grey Matte joining the palette. The N model comes in nine finishes, led by Performance Blue available in gloss or matte. Inside, black is now the standard across the line-up, reflecting what customers actually choose. The N Line Premium features suede and leather appointed seats while the Elite trim can be specified with one of two light-coloured interiors at no extra cost.

Pricing, Options And Aftercare

Pricing is straightforward and sits as follows on manufacturer’s list price terms: the base IONIQ 5 RWD 168kW 84kWh is listed from $76,200. The Elite is $81,200, the N Line Premium AWD 239kW is $91,700 and the IONIQ 5 N flagship is $115,000. Optional premium paint carries a modest additional fee and matte finishes a slightly higher one. All prices include applicable luxury car tax where relevant but exclude delivery and on-road costs.

Pre-paid service plans are competitively priced. A 24 month plan is available from $659 and a 48 month plan around $1,318 for most variants; the high-performance N’s 48 month plan is approximately $1,340. Hyundai’s myHyundaiCare package underpins ownership with lifetime premium roadside support when serviced by Hyundai, sat nav updates and access to a Genuine Service Plan. The vehicle warranty can extend to seven years provided scheduled servicing is done at authorised dealers, and high-voltage batteries are covered for eight years or 160,000km.

Specification Highlights

The standard IONIQ 5 comes well equipped with heat pump technology, battery heating and conditioning, i-Pedal one-pedal driving, smart regenerative braking and a comprehensive safety suite that includes Highway Driving Assist 2, Forward Collision-Avoidance, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance and more. The cabin pairs a 12.3-inch digital cluster with a matching 12.3-inch multimedia navigation display, wireless phone charging and four USB-C ports. The Elite adds 20-inch alloy wheels, BOSE audio, a head-up display and a powered passenger seat, among other niceties.

N Line Premium introduces the Vision Roof with power sunshade, ventilated and memory seats, N Line styling cues, leather and suede trim and 20-inch N Line wheels. The IONIQ 5 N brings full-blooded performance hardware including larger forged 21-inch wheels, performance Pirelli rubber, electronic control suspension, big ventilated rotors, N-specific electronic systems like N Drift Optimiser Pro and N Active Sound+, a sliding centre console with an N-themed interior and a host of driver aids tuned for high-speed use. It is, in short, both practical and mildly thrilling.

If you want a simpler choice with modern convenience and a clear step up to a proper performance EV, Hyundai has done the pruning for you. The result is less bewilderment at the dealer and a very sensible offering across range, tech and price.
