The Mercedes E-Class has had a wardrobe change. Two limited-run editions have been lacquered in black trim, shoved into 21-inch wheels and sent out to look intimidating at traffic lights. One is the E 300 AMG Night Edition, the other is the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID Dark Carbon Edition. Both arrive in Australia in limited numbers.

E 300 AMG Night Edition

Think of this as the quietly sporty E-Class. The E 300 gains the Night Package exterior flourishes and darkened door sill trims, while for the first time the model can be specified with 21-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels in high-sheen black. Under the bonnet the mild-hybrid 2.0-litre four cylinder turbo and nine-speed automatic remain, producing 190 kW and 400 Nm. The mild-hybrid tech smooths low-speed operation and helps efficiency, and the chassis is tuned for composed cruising rather than manic flogging.

Inside the cabin you get the MBUX multimedia setup with a 14.4-inch central display and a 12.3-inch passenger display, plus a limited-edition digital badge. Sport front seats with climatization, broad connectivity and a quiet, polished cabin keep the E 300 firmly in luxury-sedan territory.

E 53 HYBRID Dark Carbon Edition

Now the one that will make your pulse a little rude. The E 53 HYBRID Dark Carbon Edition bundles Night Package and Night Package II, black-finish details across grille, mirrors and badging, and 21-inch AMG forged black wheels. Inside sits an AMG carbon-fibre centre console to remind you this is not a mere trim level tweak.

The powertrain is plug-in hybrid business with serious intent: up to 450 kW and 750 Nm, 0-100 km in 3.8 s and a claimed NEDC-tested electric range of 101 km. AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, AMG-specific suspension and brakes, AMG RIDE CONTROL and dynamic packages sharpen the handling so the car behaves as quickly as it looks.

Standard AMG touches include Nappa leather upholstery with AMG emblems, an AMG performance steering wheel, AMG drive settings and the usual MBUX tricks and driver aids. In short, the E 300 is the refined sports sedan; the E 53 is the performance sedan with blacked-out attitude.

Both editions go on sale in Australia from 15 May 2026. The E 300 AMG Night Edition is priced at $129,400 MRLP and the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID Dark Carbon Edition at $206,900 MRLP. They will be offered in limited numbers.
