Genesis Magma Racing Scores First WEC Championship Points
Genesis Magma Racing finally put its name on the FIA World Endurance Championship scoreboard at Spa, the #17 GMR-001 crossing the line in eighth to claim the team’s first championship points in only its second race. It was a classic endurance script: clever strategy, a few gremlins, and a defender who would not be bullied.

The weekend began sensibly enough, with the two GMR-001s holding station early on. A calculated decision to partially fuel the #17 for its second stint nudged it into the top ten and set up the late race gambit. With the car off power at points, the team doubled down under a Virtual Safety Car, executing a very short stop that bought track position but left the car on older rubber and lower energy reserves for the restart.
With just over half an hour to go, the #17 rejoined in eighth and, as others ahead came unstuck or slowed, briefly ran as high as sixth before settling back to eighth. The driver in the final stint fended off challengers on fresher tyres and defended tenaciously enough to bring home those first points for the fledgling outfit.
Damage Control And Development
The sister #19 did not enjoy such drama-free fortunes. An electrical fault early on cost seven laps but was repaired efficiently, and thereafter the crew treated the race as a rolling test session. Midway through a double stint the team experimented with two rear tyres to study balance changes, information that is gold when you are still getting to know a brand new hypercar.
Why It Matters
Points are points and momentum is momentum. Finishing both cars and extracting usable data was the weekend’s real victory. This team is still very young, still learning, and that eighth place is the sort of small, hard-earned milestone that makes you grin rather than gloat. With Le Mans looming, the lessons from Spa will be chewed over, tightened up and sent back out onto the track. Endurance racing does not reward perfection so much as perseverance, and Genesis Magma Racing just added a useful page to its playbook.
