Suzuki has finally done the sensible thing and zapped the Vitara into the electric age. The all-new e VITARA will arrive in Australia from June 2026 and promises to be a compact, practical little SUV that happens to run on electrons rather than petrol. Think familiar Vitara silhouette, but with decidedly more modern intentions and fewer excuses for emissions.

On the outside Suzuki has given the e VITARA a purposeful, slightly adventurous look that refuses to apologise for wanting to be taken seriously in both the city and the countryside. Sharp LED lighting, sculpted panels and aerodynamic tidiness do the job of making it look like an electric car rather than a petrol car that forgot what decade it was in. The Ultra variant adds a glass roof and extra visual swagger for those who like their practicality with a hint of show-off.

Power And Range

Underneath sits a bespoke HEARTECT-e platform and a lithium iron phosphate battery array offered in two flavours: 49 kWh for the Motion and 61 kWh for the Ultra. That translates to around 344 km for the Motion and about 395 km for the Ultra on the official cycle, which in real life means you can do most daily chores and a few weekend escapes without constantly hunting for a charger. Motor outputs are 106 kW for Motion and 135 kW for Ultra, with the Ultra using a clever dual-motor ALLGRIP-e system to provide AWD traction and extra shove when the road stops being polite.

Charging is straightforward and unflashy in a good way. DC rapid charging is targeted at 45 minutes from 10 to 80 percent, while AC charging is roughly 5.5 hours on a three-phase 11 kW hook-up or about 9 hours on a 7 kW single-phase supply. A heat pump is standard across the range to help battery efficiency when temperatures misbehave, which is the sort of thoughtful detail that counts when you live somewhere with four seasons in one day.

Interior And Practicality

Inside the e VITARA plays the sensible card with a clean, minimalist dash, a floating centre console and ambient lighting that offers 12 colours if you are that way inclined. Suzuki has kept physical climate controls because not everyone wants to wrestle a touchscreen while waiting at traffic lights. The Motion is aimed at everyday usability with fabric seats and a simple, efficient kit list, while the Ultra brings heated seats, an Infinity sound system and a wireless charger for those who prefer slightly more creature comforts.

Why It Matters

This is Suzuki doing what Suzuki does best: making practical, reliable small SUVs but with an electric heart. The e VITARA will not try to reinvent the wheel, but it will give buyers an appealing mix of range, sensible engineering and an AWD option that actually helps off the beaten track. Pre-orders are open now and drive-away sales are expected to begin in June 2026, which means you will soon be able to choose an electric Vitara if you want something compact, competent and slightly less shouty than some of its rivals.
