Volkswagen ID. Buzz World Tour Rolls Into Australia

TDP |

Volkswagen Group Australia has announced that a very special ID. Buzz has arrived on these sunburnt shores as part of an epic world tour. The trip is not a jaunt. It will take the electric van through 75 countries and more than 80,000 kilometres, which is a lot of petrol stations you will never miss.

A Record-Setting Expedition

The tour is led by a highly experienced long-distance driver and it exists to prove a point. Drive the ID. Buzz in real-world conditions across continents and see whether range, reliability and tech live up to the brochure. Australia now features as a key waypoint, with scheduled stops in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane. It is less a parade and more a rolling experiment, conducted at pace.

A Modern Kombi For The Open Road

This is Volkswagen’s electric reinterpretation of the beloved Kombi, a vehicle that has long been part of the Australian touring legend. The ID. Buzz tries to do the same thing with batteries and software: evoke nostalgia while being actually useful. It marries retro charm with modern technology, zero-emissions capability and a clear engineering focus on range and durability. In short, it is meant to be emotional and sensible at the same time.

Proving It On Australian Roads

The project is backed by a driver who already chalked up two Guinness World Records in 2024, including the largest GPS drawing ever made by an electric vehicle, a tribute across Australia traced in an ID.4 GTX, and the fastest crossing of all 10 Australian deserts in a little over six and a half days in an Amarok. Those feats are not party tricks; they are dress rehearsals for the global tour.

VGA’s Managing Director described the ID. Buzz as an authentic, modern take on a people mover Australian drivers know and love. He added that electric vehicles can be fun and functional, and that this tour is demonstrating that sustainability and performance can coexist from busy city streets to the harshest outback tracks.

This Australian leg is intended to be one of several defining chapters in a journey that aims to show electric mobility knows no boundaries. For more information visit http://www.volkswagen.com.au or follow the journey at idbuzz-worldtour.com
