Outlander PHEV Reborn: Bigger Battery And Australian Tuning
mitsubishi outlander phev returns to showrooms 1
On 10 November 2025 Mitsubishi revealed a properly significant update to the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV, and it is not the sort of tinkering you get from someone with a spanner and too much confidence. The headline figure is a new lithium-ion drive battery with 22.7 kWh of capacity, which translates to a WLTP-tested pure electric range of 86 kilometres. Expect these cars in dealers in Q1 2026, with final pricing and full specs to be announced closer to launch.
Under the bonnet there are two high-power electric motors working with a 2.4-litre petrol engine. The petrol unit can behave like a generator or, when conditions demand, power the front wheels directly. In plain English that means more flexibility, more power when you want it and a better chance of avoiding range anxiety when the charge meter drops.
Ride and handling have been properly thought through for Australian roads. Suspension and steering were tuned alongside the internal combustion Outlander to suit rough bitumen and long distances, and those setups will be used globally. There are also comfort and refinement upgrades: a new steel bonnet and front wings to cut cabin noise and vibration, summer-specific Bridgestone tyres, improved battery cooling and the addition of Dynamic Sound Yamaha audio to make the interior sound as grown-up as the rest of the car.
Model Range Confirmed
The lineup begins with the ES grade, which comes with a 12.3-inch smartphone-link display and navigation, an eight-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium system, the new 22.7 kWh drive battery, and black cloth upholstery. It also includes climate control with engine start system, Connected Car Services, a driver monitor system, an electrochromatic frameless rear-view mirror, haptic pre-collision brake warning, improved blind-spot intervention and lane departure prevention, LED interior lighting, LED rear turn and backup lamps, a multi around view monitor with bird’s-eye view, new front and rear bumpers and 18-inch alloy wheels. Practical upgrades include rear automatic braking linked to the rear camera, steel bonnet and front fenders for better NVH, traffic sign recognition with ACC speed limit link, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Move up to ASPIRE and you get 5+2 seating, a slide and recline manual seat adjuster with a walk-in system, black Granlux and PVC upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, an improved wireless phone charger and extra Mi-pilot features such as Lane Keep Assist, touch-sensor steering vibration, Traffic Jam Assist, plus newly designed 20-inch alloy wheels.
EXCEED trims ditch the third row for a five-seat layout and add aluminium-look accelerator and brake pedals, your choice of black or grey leather upholstery, a frameless interior rear-view mirror with digital monitor, and ventilated front seats.
At the top sits EXCEED TOURER, which brings a 12-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate audio system, Brick Brown semi-aniline premium leather, and electric massage functions for the driver and front passenger. It is the car you buy when the journey matters as much as the destination.
Aftersales And Warranty
Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage package covers Outlander purchasers with a 10-year or 200,000 kilometre manufacturer’s warranty and 10 years of capped price servicing. The program also offers up to four years of complimentary roadside assistance when the vehicle is serviced through an authorised dealer as per the service schedule. For the plug-in models there is a Drive Battery Capacity Care Program designed to ensure the battery retains at least 66 percent of its usable energy over the warranty period, and the drive battery itself is backed by an eight-year, 160,000 kilometre warranty.
For reference, the standard new car warranty remains 5 years or 100,000 kilometres, and eligibility for the extended 10-year, 200,000 kilometre warranty depends on having scheduled services carried out through the authorised dealer network. Certain user groups may be excluded from extended coverage, including government, taxi and rental operators.
Final specs and pricing will be confirmed closer to the Q1 2026 showroom arrival, but the message is clear: more electric range, more power, quieter cabin and suspension and steering tuned for Australia. If you liked the previous Outlander, this one aims to be noticeably better.
