According to eBay Australia, searches for James Bond memorabilia have jumped a ridiculous 400% lately. That’s not a trend — that’s a national obsession. Sales of Bond movie box sets are up 80%, and even the original books are selling 65% more than last year. So while Hollywood argues about who the next 007 will be, the fans have spoken: we still prefer the old ones.
A Licence to Collect
People aren’t just watching Bond, they’re buying him. Hard. The biggest spikes are around the classic agents:

Even a set of Ian Fleming first editions went for $2,685.46. That’s a lot of money to spend pretending you’re sneaking around MI6 instead of scrolling through listings at 2 a.m.

In Sydney, there’s a bloke named Lachlan who’s turned Bond fandom into a lifestyle. He’s got more than 400 items, worth around $15,000, stacked in his collection, from Lego Aston Martins and vinyl soundtracks to model cars, Funko Pops, and enough memorabilia to make Q branch jealous.
“It’s the thrill, the adventure, the gadgets,” Lachlan says. “Every piece takes me back into the films.”
Translation: the man lives for this stuff, and honestly, who can blame him?
Nostalgia Never Dies
According to Alaister Low, eBay Australia’s Head of Collectables, the Bond boom is part of a bigger nostalgia wave.
“Bond isn’t just a franchise, it’s a cultural icon,” he says. “Eighty-five percent of collectors buy because of childhood memories.”
Which makes sense. Bond is pure escapism: cars that shoot rockets, watches that explode, villains with questionable accents. You don’t outgrow that.
