The Joy of Photography, Reimagined

At just 240g including battery and memory card, the X half delivers powerful performance in a palm-sized package. It pairs a 1 inch back-illuminated sensor with a fixed 32mm equivalent F2.8 lens, mirroring the classic QuickSnap’s focal length, giving users a familiar yet refined perspective.

A standout feature is the rear LCD monitor aligned vertically to match the sensor’s 3:4 shooting ratio, ideal for the social media savvy generation who shoot and share vertically. Adding to the throwback vibe is an optical viewfinder and a satisfying mechanical frame advance lever, letting photographers physically ‘wind’ to the next frame after each shot.

Dual Image Creation and the 2 in 1 Revolution

Central to the X half experience is its innovative 2 in 1 mode. Users can capture two vertical stills or video clips and combine them side by side in a single frame, all in-camera. This fresh approach to framing enhances narrative depth, opening the door to richer visual storytelling.

“The new filters, such as light leak and expired film, will add to those feelings,” said Shaun Mah, General Manager of the Electronic Imaging & Optical Devices Division of Fujifilm Australia. “There are two sides to every story, and I am looking forward to seeing what our users create with the new 2 in 1 mode.”

For even more control, creators can edit their 2 in 1 compositions through the dedicated X half app, adjusting divider lines, swapping image positions and refining the look before sharing.

Nostalgic Filters and Film Like Feel

Fujifilm has long been praised for its Film Simulations, and the X half brings them front and centre with 13 modes in total, including the latest “REALA ACE.” New additions like Light Leak, Halation and Expired Film build on this foundation, evoking the imperfections and character of analogue photography.

Also onboard is a Grain Effect that mimics the natural texture of film, while the Date Stamp feature lets users time stamp photos in the classic bottom corner style of old prints.

Film lovers will appreciate the new Film Camera Mode, which restricts image playback until a selected roll is complete, digitally recreating the anticipation of film development. Once finished, the photos can be transferred to the X half app for processing, sharing or printing.

Connected Creativity

With built-in Bluetooth, the X half makes it easy to transfer content to smartphones and tablets, while direct printing support with the instax Link series adds instant gratification to the workflow. The X half app also allows users to order physical prints and photo products, rolling out first in Japan with global availability set for 2025.

The joy of photography doesn’t stop at capture. With the X half, Fujifilm aims to provide an end-to-end creative experience, from shooting and editing to sharing and printing.

Pricing and Availability

The X half will be available in Australia from 12 June 2025, with a recommended retail price of $1,349 including GST.

“With the look and feel of a traditional half-frame film camera, but the internals and technology that come with digital imaging, this new camera is bound to bring more smiles to its users,” added Shaun Mah.

Whether you’re a seasoned creative or someone discovering photography for the first time, the X half offers something rare in today’s tech heavy world: a way to slow down, tell richer stories and rediscover the joy of photography.
