DJI Launches Lightweight Commercial Video Transmission with Advanced SDR Technology – DJI SDR

Open Spaces
DJI, the world leader in creative camera technology, has unveiled a revolutionary video transmission system featuring advanced software-defined radio (SDR) technology. Aimed at small to medium-sized film crews, the DJI SDR Transmission system promises enhanced stability, superior interference resistance, and robust penetration capabilities. It also supports simultaneous Wi-Fi transmissions for temporary monitoring, offering filmmakers unparalleled flexibility on set.
“From the outset, our DJI PRO line has been designed to be a comprehensive and reliable ecosystem for both professional filmmakers and content creators,” said Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI. “We continuously listen to user feedback to expand our offerings. Our new DJI SDR Transmission provides film and television-level image transmission quality at a more accessible price point for emerging filmmakers.”
High-Quality Video Feeds with Ultimate Stability
DJI SDR Transmission leverages SDR technology to ensure stable video transmissions even in the most complex shooting environments. Filmmakers can expect 1080p/60fps live feeds with bitrates up to 20Mbps and a delay as low as 35 milliseconds, transmitting up to 3 kilometres (1.8 miles). The system’s superior penetration capabilities maintain stable feeds despite interference, automatically hopping across 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and DFS frequency bands to find the optimal channel.
Smooth Collaboration with Diverse Monitoring Methods
The DJI SDR Transmission system enhances collaboration on set by outputting three SDR signals and two Wi-Fi signals simultaneously. In broadcast mode, it can connect to unlimited receivers, providing high-quality monitoring for multiple collaborators. Connections to monitors can be made via SDI/HDMI and to smartphones and tablets via USB-C or Wi-Fi, facilitating cost-effective dual-channel monitoring without an additional receiver.
Remote Camera Controls for Agile and Innovative Monitoring
When used with DJI RS Series Stabilisers, the DJI SDR Transmission supports Force Mobile, virtual joystick, and gimbal recentering functions. Paired with a camera, it offers PTP control, allowing adjustments to aperture, shutter, ISO, and triggering camera functions through the app. It also supports CEC control of Sony cameras, enabling Mirror Control mode.
Efficient Workflow and Collaboration Across DJI PRO and Beyond
The system can transmit metadata, enhancing collaboration during filming. When connected to the DJI Ronin app in Broadcast mode, users can switch seamlessly between camera indexes. Adaptable to mainstream cinema cameras like ARRI and RED via SDI, it offers directors, cinematographers, and DIT teams real-time access to detailed shooting information.
Versatile Power Supply Options
The DJI SDR Transmission uses a standard PD protocol charger with a USB-C input and can be powered directly by DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 4, or DJI RS 3 Pro when mounted together, eliminating the need for a separate battery. Both the transmitter and receiver also support industry-standard NP-F batteries.
Compact, Lightweight, Portable
Designed for portability, the DJI SDR Transmission system is lightweight, with a single transmitter or receiver weighing only 145 g (5.1 oz). Its foldable antenna makes it easy to carry and store.
