Over the past week, we had the pleasure of experiencing the Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate from Chery. This review lets you in on our thoughts, from extensive testing, covering everything from its design and performance to safety, fuel economy, and overall value proposition.
Design and Features
Priced at an attractive $45,990 drive-away, the Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate stands out with its sleek design. The exterior is marked by 19-inch alloy wheels and racy red brake calipers, giving it a distinct presence on the road. Inside, the cabin impresses with dual-zone climate control, a pair of 12.3-inch digital screens, synthetic leather seats, and a plethora of modern amenities including an eight-speaker Sony audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting. The addition of an auto tailgate and power-folding exterior mirrors further enhances the convenience factor.

Performance
Under the bonnet, the Tiggo is powered by a robust 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine. Delivering 137kW and 275Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission facilitating all-wheel drive. This setup ensures that the Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate has more than enough grunt to compete with the majority of its rivals, offering a blend of power and efficiency that is hard to overlook.

Driving Experience
Throughout our week with the Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate, the SUV demonstrated a generally comfortable and refined driving experience. However, we did notice a modest steering feel and an indistinct gearshift at times, which slightly marred the overall smoothness. Despite these minor gripes, the vehicle’s spacious interior and ample storage options, including a generous 626-litre boot capacity, made it an excellent companion for both daily errands and longer journeys.

Safety and Technology
Safety is a strong suit for the Tiggo, equipped with an impressive suite of active crash-avoidance technologies. From AEB to adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning, the vehicle offers peace of mind. However, it’s worth noting that some of these advanced systems, particularly the adaptive cruise and lane-centring, could benefit from recalibration to refine their operation.

Fuel Economy and Value
Chery claims a combined cycle fuel economy of 7.8L/100km for the Tiggo, which we found to be fairly accurate during our testing. We managed to push it to 9L/100km while being a bit heavier on the throttle. Coupled with a seven-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, seven years’ capped-price servicing, and up to seven years of roadside assistance, the Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate presents a compelling value proposition that is difficult to match in the current market.

Verdict
After a week with the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate, it’s clear that this SUV is a significant contender in its segment and price point. Offering a rich array of features, commendable performance, and an attractive price point, it appeals to buyers looking for a well-rounded vehicle that doesn’t compromise on technology or safety. While there’s room for improvement in steering feedback and transmission refinement, these are outweighed by the vehicle’s overall package of practicality, safety, and value. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Ultimate is a testament to the brand’s commitment to the Australian market, showcasing a maturity in product development that should have potential buyers taking notice.
