Pink mirrors on a Supercar and pink trim on a driver’s race suit can carry a message well beyond the pit lane. For Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne and Kai Allen, those details became part of Socket to Breast Cancer, the Snap-on Tools fundraising campaign supporting the McGrath Foundation. The partnership brought workshops, professional technicians and Supercars fans together around a shared goal: helping people and families experiencing cancer.

The 2026 campaign is aiming to raise a further A$350,000, with Penrite Racing helping take the initiative to a wider motorsport audience. Following its appearance at the Gold Coast 500, there are still ways for readers to support the cause. The campaign’s PR team confirmed on 30 October that the direct fundraising link would remain open through the first few weeks of November.

In written answers supplied to TechDrivePlay, Payne and Allen explained why they wanted to get involved, what the automotive community brings to the campaign and the workshop equipment they rely on. Their responses show the personal connection behind the pink detailing and why this partnership makes sense for the people on both sides of the garage door.

Why Socket to Breast Cancer matters to Matt Payne

For Payne, the campaign has a personal significance. The Penrite Racing driver told TechDrivePlay that his grandmother died from breast cancer, bringing the purpose of the fundraising effort close to home. His answer gives a simple, human explanation for why using the team’s platform matters to him.

“Socket to Breast cancer is quite personal for me, my family has been impacted by breast cancer with my grandma passing away from the disease,” Payne said.

He also sees a particular strength in the people who follow motorsport. Fans build lasting connections with teams and drivers, travelling to events, following the season and supporting the businesses involved in the sport. Payne believes that enthusiasm can help a campaign reach people who are ready to get behind it.

“Motorsport fans are some of the most passionate and loyal supporters in sport, and when they’re given the opportunity to get behind a cause that affects so many people, they really get behind it,” he said.

A $350,000 fundraising goal for 2026

Snap-on says 2026 marks the third year of its partnership with the McGrath Foundation, following two years that generated more than half a million dollars for cancer care. This year’s A$350,000 figure is the fundraising target. The partnership with Penrite Racing adds another way to bring people into that effort.

The connection starts in a familiar place for Snap-on: the workshop. The company’s professional tools are part of the working environment shared by technicians, mechanics and race teams, while its franchise network reaches automotive businesses around Australia. According to the campaign announcement, more than 180 Australian franchisees supported Socket to Breast Cancer in 2025 through activities including pink truck wraps, tool sales and donations.

Allen sees that wider community as central to the campaign’s potential. In his answers, he pointed to the relationships Snap-on has with workshops, professional technicians and franchisees, and the opportunity for motorsport to extend that network. The team’s involvement gives fans another route to support a cause already familiar to many people in the trade.

“The wider automotive community is incredibly important to making Socket to Breast Cancer successful because this is a community that comes together and gets behind causes that matter to its people,” Allen said.

Pink detailing at the Gold Coast 500

The 2026 Gold Coast 500 ran from 23–25 October at Surfers Paradise. Penrite Racing brought the campaign into that race-weekend setting through pink details across the cars and racewear, with the supplied images showing the drivers’ black suits finished with pink trim and the campaign logo on Payne’s gloves.

Those pieces of equipment also became part of the fundraising plan. The organisers arranged an auction of memorabilia associated with Payne and Allen’s Gold Coast weekend, including worn and signed racewear. It gives the connection between a fan, a driver and a race a practical fundraising role.

In the campaign update supplied to TechDrivePlay, Snap-on Tools ANZ Managing Director Paul Lynch explained that auctioning the gear after the race would turn a piece of Supercars history into support for the McGrath Foundation. It is an approach that lets the race-weekend involvement carry on after the cars have left the circuit.

Kai Allen’s workshop pick: Snap-on ATECH torque wrenches

Asked which piece of workshop equipment he particularly appreciates, Allen chose Snap-on’s ATECH digital torque wrenches. His explanation brings the story back to the technical work that supports the drivers on track, especially the need for precision and usability when mechanics and engineers are working on the cars.

“We can’t go past Snap-on’s ATECH digital torque wrenches,” Allen said. “The technology is really impressive, but they’re also incredibly practical for what we do as a Supercars team.”

Allen highlighted engine work as an area where accuracy is particularly important. His comments offer the team’s perspective on the tools, while the pink versions link that everyday workshop role with the October fundraising campaign. It is a direct connection between a product the team values and the cause it is supporting.

Snap-on’s announcement listed a wider Pink Tools range spanning screwdriver sets, hammers, pry bars, pliers, shears, ratchets, cutters, ATECH tools and toolboxes. The company said a portion of proceeds from the campaign range would be donated to the McGrath Foundation.

The Pink Tools promotion was announced for October. Anyone looking for a particular item after that period can check current availability and campaign terms with Snap-on’s Australian franchise network. The direct donation option remains useful for people who want to support the initiative without needing new workshop gear.

How the fundraising supports cancer care

The purpose behind the campaign extends beyond awareness at a sporting event. The official Snap-on fundraising page explains that donations support the McGrath Foundation’s work. The Foundation provides free, specialist McGrath Cancer Care Nurse support to people and families experiencing any type of cancer across Australia.

That broader role matters when reading the campaign’s name. Socket to Breast Cancer reflects the partnership’s origins and its October focus, while the care being supported now extends across cancer types. The practical aim is to help more people access the support they need through their cancer experience.

Allen’s invitation to fans was deliberately broad. He encouraged people to get involved in a way that works for them, whether by donating, supporting the fundraising effort or helping spread the message. That gives the campaign room to include the people watching from home as well as those in the paddock or workshop.

How to support Socket to Breast Cancer

Readers can donate through Snap-on’s official McGrath Foundation fundraising page. The campaign team confirmed that donations would continue to be accepted through the first few weeks of November, carrying the opportunity to help beyond Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

For motorsport memorabilia, the organisers’ Race for a Cause auction page is the place to check current information. For Pink Tools, contact a Snap-on franchisee about stock and the terms applying to the item you are considering. Sharing the direct fundraising link is also a simple way to introduce the campaign to other fans or people in the automotive trade.

The pink details gave Socket to Breast Cancer visibility at the Gold Coast. Payne and Allen’s answers explain the personal and professional connections behind them. With Snap-on’s workshop community and Penrite Racing’s fan base involved, the partnership gives that visibility a clear purpose: turning the enthusiasm surrounding cars and racing into support for people who need care.
