BYD’s Blue Shark Sells Hope And Money For Beyond Blue

They sold a ute and fixed a bit of the world. BYD Australia, together with its retail partner EV Dealer Group, turned a simple design choice into a charitable machine. By donating A$200 from every Deep Sea Blue Shark 6 ute sold over a 10-week stretch that began on November 14, 2025, the campaign cleared the A$200,000 mark in early January, with more money still on its way.
How The Fundraiser Worked
For every Deep Sea Blue Shark 6 purchased during the campaign, A$200 went straight to Beyond Blue. It was beautifully simple. No raffle, no celebrity chef, just people buying cars and choosing a colour that happens to help fund crucial mental health support.
Impact On Australians
The cash goes directly to Beyond Blue’s 24/7 Support Service, which helps more than 3,000 Australians a year access phone, webchat and email support. To put that into perspective, roughly every two minutes someone in Australia reaches out to Beyond Blue for help. More than 3.4 million Australians currently experience depression or anxiety, so the need is relentless and ongoing.
Dealers And Buyers Stepped Up
Dealerships reported customers switching their preference to Deep Sea Blue specifically to support the cause. The one-thousandth Deep Sea Blue Shark 6 sold as part of this initiative landed in the same month BYD marked the delivery of its 80,000th vehicle in Australia. That kind of coincidence is pleasing, and it means the campaign had both scale and genuine customer buy-in.
Why BYD Did It
BYD says the initiative fits with its wider goal of using new energy technology to improve lives. In plain terms, the company wanted to convert product sales into real-world help for people who need it. The result is a tidy example of a commercial brand using its reach to fund immediate, life-changing services for vulnerable Australians.
And that is the point. A colour choice, a modest donation per car, and suddenly hundreds of thousands of dollars are funnelled into a service people rely on every day. Not bad for a paint job.
