BYD’s Affordable Electric Cars Hit Australian Showrooms
byd atto group r2 11
BYD has confirmed local pricing for its ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 ahead of showroom arrivals this summer, and the numbers are the sort of shock that makes accountants smile. The ATTO 1 starts from $23,990 plus on-road costs, while the ATTO 2 kicks off at $31,990 plus on-road costs. These prices push electric cars into genuine price parity with petrol rivals, and in a few cases undercut them outright.
ATTO 1: Compact, Connected, And City-Ready
Think small, think clever. The ATTO 1 comes in two trims, Essential and Premium, with battery options of 30 kWh and 43.2 kWh respectively. It is aimed squarely at urban life – nimble, well-equipped and able to DC fast-charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. That makes it ideal for city commuters and first-time EV buyers. For those who like names as much as numbers, this car appears overseas as the DOLPHIN MINI, DOLPHIN SURF or SEAGULL, depending on the continent.
ATTO 2: Spacious SUV For Everyday Adventure
If you need room for people and luggage but still want an economical electric drive, the ATTO 2 is the larger, more SUV-like option. Both Dynamic and Premium models use a 51.3 kWh battery and manage DC charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 39 minutes. It blends practical space with the kind of efficiency and refinement buyers now expect from modern EVs.
Technology And Local Tuning
Both cars sit on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and use the latest evolution of the Blade Battery together with an 8-in-1 electric powertrain. BYD says these models underwent extensive R and D for suspension tuning and ADAS calibration specifically for Australian roads and conditions. In short, they are not just shipped in and left to fend for themselves – they have been adjusted with local driving habits in mind.
Pricing And Availability
Model pricing is as follows – ATTO 1 Essential from $23,990 plus on-road costs; ATTO 1 Premium from $27,990 plus on-road costs; ATTO 2 Dynamic from $31,990 plus on-road costs; ATTO 2 Premium from $35,990 plus on-road costs. The ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 will join BYD’s existing Australian range and are due to arrive in dealerships in December.
A company spokesperson described the two cars as the next step toward accessible, premium electric mobility for Australian drivers, combining technology, design and efficiency with local tailoring to make EV ownership more attainable.
