Royal Stacks Crown Casino: Melbourne’s Coolest New Burger Spot

If you stroll down the Yarra Promenade and suddenly catch the scent of sizzling beef and toasted buns, follow it. You’ll end up at Royal Stacks Crown Casino, and frankly, there’s no better place to be. This isn’t some dingy takeaway joint hiding behind a neon sign. This is a full-blown burger experience. The 11th Royal Stacks in Victoria, and easily the most impressive.

From the outside, Royal Stacks looks almost unassuming. A clean, modern frontage with a big blue sign proudly spelling out Royal Stacks, topped with that unmistakable gold crown. It doesn’t scream for attention.

Step inside though, and the energy changes. It’s bright, lively, and full of personality. The space feels fresh and open, with seating perfectly suited for anywhere between one and four people, and plenty of tables to choose from. Whether you’re flying solo for a quick lunch or in with friends for a full-blown feast, it’s comfortable, casual, and has that chill Melbourne vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.

The Menu That Doesn’t Miss

The menu is the stuff of cheat-day dreams. It’s huge, colourful, and absolutely unapologetic. You’ve got everything from the Single Stack classic to the Caesar Stack, which is basically a chicken Caesar salad as a burger! There’s beef, chicken, vegan, and veggie options, plus a range of Iced Stacks drinks, from Banana Cream Matcha to an Iced Tiramisu Latte, and milkshakes thick enough to bend your straw. Add in the sides, dipping sauces, and the frozen yoghurt bar with more than 25 toppings, and it’s basically food heaven.

We decided to go straight for the stars of the show: The Saint, Double Stack, and Regina George Vegan Burger, backed up by an unnecessary but glorious line-up of sides. By the end, we were somewhere between food nirvana and a mild coma, and not one of us was complaining.

The Saint: A Burger With Attitude

The Saint is a burger event. Two juicy Australian pasture fed beef patties, bacon, tomato, lettuce, double cheddar, raw onion, chipotle mayo, and jalapeños, all balanced perfectly on a toasted bun.

It’s a glorious mess. Juicy enough to require napkins and the jalapeños give it that little kick that doesn’t burn your face off, but is just perfect. It requires two hands, no phones, no talking, just pure, greasy satisfaction.

The Double Stack: Simplicity, Perfected

The Double Stack is the definition of classic done right. Two beef patties, double cheddar, tomato, lettuce, pickles, and special sauce.

It doesn’t rely on gimmicks or fancy tricks. It’s just a proper burger done right. Every bite lands exactly how it should. Balanced, and cooked perfectly. One taste and you know it’s the kind of burger that’ll stick in your mind long after the last bite.

Regina George: The Vegan That Means Business

And then, in a plot twist no one saw coming, the Regina George Vegan Burger turned out to be an absolute star. A toasted vegan bun, vegan patty, vegan cheese, lettuce, and sauce.

It’s light, flavourful, and properly satisfying. No weird textures, no cardboard aftertaste, just good, honest flavour. Even the meat eaters at the table gave it the nod, which is about as rare as finding a parking spot in the city.

Fries, Rings, and Truffle Sorcery

Then there were the sides. Chilli beef fries, onion rings, and a tub of truffle mayo that could start fights.

The chilli beef fries were cheesy and rich with beef goodness that makes you hum quietly to yourself. The onion rings were golden and crisp, the sort of thing you could eat endlessly without realising you’ve finished them (which of course we did!).

But the truffle mayo? It’s like someone bottled luxury. Creamy, earthy, and dangerously addictive. We dipped everything in it. Fries, rings, burger bits, probably a straw at one point. If they sold it by the litre, I’d fill the car boot.

Shakes and DIY Drinks

After that, we went for the milkshakes because restraint is for quitters. We grabbed the Kinder Bueno, chocolate, and Blue Heaven shakes. The Kinder Bueno one stole the show. Sweet, and smooth dessert in a cup, enough to make you forget your own name.

And then there’s the post mix drink machine (don’t judge but we followed our milkshakes with a soft drink chaser!), which lets you build your own drink. You pick a soft drink base, add flavour shots, and create something either brilliant or horrifying. Mine tasted like success tailor made for me. It’s ridiculous fun.

The Venue: Bright, Loud, and Full of Life

The best part about Royal Stacks is that it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It’s loud, colourful, and full of personality. The staff are friendly, the food comes out fast, and everyone looks like they’re actually having a good time. You can’t fake that.

It’s also refreshingly inclusive. Vegan, halal, and gluten free options are all on deck, so no one misses out. And yes, there are chicken salads for the sensible ones in the group, though personally, I’d argue that’s missing the point entirely.

Frozen Yoghurt: The Sweet Finish

And just when we thought we’d hit the wall, we noticed the frozen yoghurt bar next door, connected to the restaurant. There are over 25 toppings, which is both exciting and dangerous.

We went for salted caramel frozen yoghurt with Biscoff crumbs, strawberries, and melted Biscoff sauce. It was ridiculous. Sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy, all at once. The perfect finale to a meal that already felt like a celebration.

Verdict: Royal Stacks Crown Casino Is the Burger Boss

Forget fancy dining and tasting menus that look like art projects. Royal Stacks is what Melbourne does best. Big flavours, bright lights, proper food. From the burgers to the truffle mayo and the frozen yoghurt overload, everything here just works.

If you’re wandering along the Yarra and wondering where to eat, stop wondering. Go to Royal Stacks. It’s unapologetically fun, ridiculously tasty, and absolutely worth every bite.
