Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro), the latest innovation in their gaming hardware lineup. Set to launch on November 7, 2024, the PS5 Pro promises to revolutionise gaming with enhanced visuals, faster performance, and cutting-edge technology. With a recommended retail price of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY, it aims to build upon the success of the original PS5 while providing gamers with an even more immersive experience.
The PS5 Pro comes with a massive 2TB solid-state drive (SSD), ensuring that players have ample storage for their favourite games and media. It also includes the DualSense wireless controller, known for its responsive haptics and adaptive triggers. One of the standout features is the addition of Wi-Fi 7 technology in regions where it’s supported, offering faster and more reliable internet connections for online gaming and streaming.
A Gaming Powerhouse
The PS5 Pro is built with power and performance in mind, boasting a significant hardware upgrade over its predecessor. The console’s upgraded GPU features 67 percent more Compute Units and 28 percent faster memory, enabling 45 percent faster rendering for smoother gameplay. This leap in processing power ensures that even the most demanding titles will run seamlessly, allowing gamers to enjoy faster load times and richer environments.
Advanced ray tracing has also been given a major boost, offering double the speed compared to the current PS5. This provides lifelike lighting, reflections, and shadows, elevating the realism in both action-packed scenes and atmospheric environments.
Additionally, the PS5 Pro introduces AI-driven upscaling with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This machine learning technology adds incredible detail to game visuals, resulting in super sharp image clarity that enhances the overall experience.
The Future of Gaming Innovation
Sony’s commitment to innovation shines through in the PS5 Pro. Hideaki Nishino, CEO of Platform Business Group at SIE, emphasised the company’s mission to continually push boundaries:
“We’re pleased to offer PS5 Pro alongside the current PS5 console this holiday, and we look forward to seeing continued gameplay innovation from our talented game creators that unleash the possibilities of the PS5 hardware for years to come.”
This commitment is reflected in the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” designation, which will be featured on select games that take full advantage of the console’s capabilities. Blockbuster titles such as Alan Wake 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are just a few of the games that will deliver enhanced experiences on the PS5 Pro.
Backward Compatibility and Accessory Support
The PS5 Pro retains the same user interface and multiplayer options as the PS5, ensuring a seamless transition for existing users. With PS5 Pro Game Boost, more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games will benefit from enhanced performance, improving frame rates and resolution. PS4 titles will also see enhanced image quality, ensuring that older favourites look better than ever on the new hardware.
Current accessories for the PS5, such as the PlayStation VR2, DualSense Edge™ wireless controller, Pulse Elite™ wireless headset, and Pulse Explore™ wireless earbuds, will all be compatible with the PS5 Pro. This ensures that players can continue using their existing gear without needing to purchase additional accessories.
Launch and Pre-Orders
The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available just in time for the holiday season, with pre-orders starting on September 26, 2024. Gamers eager to get their hands on the latest in PlayStation innovation can look forward to the console’s release through major retailers and direct.playstation.com.
