Mt Buller Buried in Season’s Biggest Snowfall
Mt Buller experiences the season’s biggest winter storm, bringing over 25cm of snow and transforming the resort for skiers and snowboarders.
Snow enthusiasts are ecstatic as Mt Buller experiences the largest winter storm of the season, with over 25 centimeters of snow already blanketing the mountain.
The snowfall began overnight and has persisted throughout the morning, with forecasters predicting the storm could bring up to 50 centimeters or more.
The resort is maintaining cold conditions, with temperatures around -3°C and a wind chill making it feel closer to -10°C. Gusty winds and heavy snowfall delayed the opening of some upper mountain lifts today, but after extensive digging and de-icing, the Summit and Koflers lifts are now operational, much to the delight of eager skiers and snowboarders.
“This is exactly what we need,” said resort spokesperson Rhylla Morgan this morning. “Earlier in the week we received 22 centimeters, and this solid dump is going to transform the experience in the resort. The depths are creeping around the 80-centimeter mark and the flakes are falling beautifully.”
“Skiers and snowboarders have been patiently waiting for significant snowfall for deeper cover and for our mountain operations team to progressively open more terrain – and it feels like this has finally arrived. The hooting and hollering around the slopes is great to hear, and local operators are thrilled to have phones ringing and emails coming in as people jump on the opportunity for a winter escape.”
Mt Buller plans to update its intended operations and expects to open additional runs in the coming days.
Mt Buller is part of the IKON pass which includes access to over 50 world class ski resorts such as Thredbo NSW, Big Sky Montana, Jackson Hole Wyoming, Chamonix France and St Moritz Switzerland.
