What Percentage of Internet Traffic Comes from Mobile Devices?

Mobile accounted for 58.99% of worldwide web page views in Statcounter’s September 2026 device-category figures. That is a useful web-usage snapshot, but it is not a measurement of every byte transferred across the internet or all activity inside mobile apps.

What the percentage includes

The Statcounter chart lists mobile at 58.99%, desktop at 39.26% and tablet at 1.76% for September 2026. Tablets are a separate category. If you combine mobile and tablet, their rounded shares total 60.75%; label that calculation rather than calling it the mobile figure.

Statcounter’s methodology uses page views from its participating websites. These are usage observations, not unique people. A person who opens many pages can contribute more observations than someone who browses occasionally. The chart is live, so record the period when quoting it.

Internet traffic can mean several things

A mobile web-share figure, a count of mobile subscribers and a mobile-network data-volume figure answer different questions. Video traffic measured in bytes can dominate a data-volume report without generating a comparable number of web page views. App use also should not be inferred from a browser-only statistic.

When comparing reports, check the unit, geography, date and whether tablets are included. A worldwide monthly snapshot cannot establish the percentage for Australian visitors to a particular business.

What website owners should do with the number

Use your own analytics to check device categories alongside the actions that matter: completing a booking, reading a guide or submitting a form. Segment a conversion measure consistently; do not compare desktop sessions with mobile page views as if the denominators were identical.

Test navigation, forms, text size and loading behaviour on the devices your readers use. A site can receive most visits from phones while a complex task still needs careful attention on larger screens. Global usage share is a reason to test mobile usability, not a reason to ignore other visitors.

For a reproducible answer, quote the source and month with the percentage and say exactly what was counted. Here, the supported description is mobile web page-view share in September 2026—not a universal share of all internet traffic.
