WWDC 2024 introduced Apple Intelligence and previewed the next major versions of Apple’s operating systems. It also set dates for Vision Pro’s expansion to Australia and other markets. This is a corrected record of those June 2024 announcements, not a guide to the latest software or a claim that every announced feature was available immediately.
Apple Intelligence was a separate eligibility question
Apple’s original announcement described writing, image and Siri features, with processing on devices and through Private Cloud Compute. Its stated initial eligibility included iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and iPad and Mac models with M1 or later, with US English language settings.
Apple said availability would begin in beta, with some features and languages arriving later. Installing an operating-system update was therefore not a promise that every supported device would receive every AI feature. These are the conditions announced in 2024, not a current compatibility list.
iPhone and iPad changes
The WWDC24 highlights covered iOS 18’s Home Screen and Control Centre customisation, changes to Photos and Messages, and iPadOS 18’s Calculator with Math Notes and handwriting tools. These were platform-specific announcements; they should not be copied into a claim that every Apple operating system gained the same interface or privacy options.
For a retrospective, distinguish the preview from the eventual release. Availability can depend on hardware, language, country and service support. A feature demonstrated on stage is not evidence that it worked on every device on the keynote date.
macOS Sequoia focused on continuity and productivity
Apple’s Sequoia announcement included iPhone Mirroring, window tiling, a presentation preview and the Passwords app. The Mac AI features had their own hardware conditions. An iPhone’s locked or hidden-app controls should not be assumed to describe macOS behaviour.
When revisiting these changes, use the documentation for the actual operating system. An iPhone feature name is not enough to establish identical behaviour on a Mac.
Vision Pro: Australia’s dates were different
The international expansion announcement set Australian preorders for 28 June 2024 and availability for 12 July. China mainland, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore had an earlier schedule: preorders from 13 June and availability from 28 June.
The two groups had different preorder and availability dates. Apple also previewed visionOS 2, while the expansion announcement identified visionOS 1.2 as the software supplied with the international launch units. The headset launch and the next operating-system update were separate events.
Watch, TV and audio announcements
The event also previewed watchOS 11, visionOS 2 and tvOS 18, alongside Home and AirPods updates. These included the Vitals app and training-load information on Apple Watch and InSight on Apple TV. They belong in the 2024 record without implying that a later service rollout or a forecast became universally available that day.
Use Apple’s current support information for a device you own today. For understanding WWDC 2024, the dated releases above provide a more useful basis than repeating predictions about how every announcement would transform daily life.
