Geely Starray EM-i Gets Its First Major OTA Update

If your Geely Starray EM-i has been sulking in the driveway like a neglected Labrador, calm down. There is a new over-the-air software update rolling out now that aims to make the car feel less like yesterday’s tech and more like a sensible, slightly smug companion.

The headline change is proper Android Auto, wired or wireless, so you can fling your favourite apps onto the centre screen without wrestling with cables. Also arriving is a one-touch Drive Setup shortcut — hit a steering-wheel button or swipe down on the infotainment screen and the car will load your preferred driving profile for every jaunt, no faffing required.
What’s New
The Drive Setup remembers a sensible spread of options: Drive Mode (Pure, Hybrid or Power), Energy Regeneration Level (Low, Medium, High or Auto), Lane Keeping Assist and Emergency Lane Keeping Assistance on or off, Driver Fatigue Detection on or off, Speed Limit Alert choices (off, blinking icon, or blinking icon plus a sound alert), and Battery Hold settings (off, Smart Battery Hold or Forced Battery Hold). There is also a tweak to Intelligent Cruise Control logic so the car decelerates more smoothly on curves, which is the sort of small mercy that makes a long drive less teeth-grating.
How To Install
The update downloads over the air and can be installed at home without a trip to a service centre. Owners are advised to use a stable home or smartphone Wi-Fi connection for the download, and full instructions are available in the Geely Connected Services section of the company website.
This update follows a similar rollout for another model earlier this year that was well received, so if you own a Starray EM-i it is worth pressing the button and letting your car join the modern world. If nothing else, it will stop blaming you for being slow when it comes to tech.
