Geely EX2 Dominates China With Staggering 465,775 Sales

If you told me a small, all-electric hatchback would topple everything else on the road in the world’s biggest car market I would have laughed, poured myself another cup of tea, and laughed again. Yet here we are. The Geely EX2, a compact rear-wheel drive hatch built on a proper high-tech electric architecture, sold 465,775 units in China in 2025 and managed to become the country’s most popular vehicle, across all segments. Astonishing, and slightly maddening.
How A Little EV Outpaced The Giants
This is not a one-hit wonder. The EX2 has been running at a consistent clip, notching monthly sales above 40,000 for seven months in a row and blasting past 50,000 in September. In an industry used to setting conservative targets and missing them with impressive regularity, the EX2 has rewritten the script and forced rivals to raise their expectations.
Under The Skin: Platform And Practicality
The EX2 rides on the Global Intelligent Electric Architecture platform, the same backbone used by the EX5 and the Starray EM-i. That means modern EV underpinnings, clever packaging and technology you can actually use. It is a five-door hatch, rear-wheel drive, and compactly proportioned at 4,135 millimetres long, 1,805 millimetres wide and 1,580 millimetres tall. The wheelbase is 2,650 millimetres, only 100 millimetres shorter than the EX5 SUV, which explains how Geely has squeezed in more than 30 functional storage nooks around the cabin. Practical, sensible and slightly smug about it.
Heading Down Under Later This Year
Geely Auto Australia confirmed plans to add the EX2 to its local line-up in the second half of 2026. It will join the EX5 EV and the Starray EM-i, giving buyers a smaller, cheekier option in the stable. Expect it to slot in as the entry point for those who want proper electric packaging without the bulk of an SUV.
What We Still Need To Know
There are a few blanks left on the spec sheet. Standard equipment, colours and pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date. Given the EX2’s run in China, expect the makers to play this launch carefully, tease the highlights, and then watch consumers do what consumers do best.
